What about those lovely organic beers served at the Souvlaki bar. ( You have to ask specially for them) Blond or dark. Made somewhere on the road to Rethymnon. Have the same tops that the old Grolsch bottles did years ago.

ah yes....they are now sold at Sifi's new place, the grill house

which is where we'll be tomorrow

/fingers crossed

Looking highly likely ..... according to the Manchester Departures board, the 09:45 flight to HER departed "on time".

Just hope the Harribobses leave some for me in July

{edit}
After thought - I suppose it means more Holts round here, for a couple of weeks, so I shouldn't complain

the flights were great, and the return got in 30 mins early!!!

back on topic...  we had a couple of crafts at 'on the rocks' , great bar, very relaxed place to be, but as usual it was the mythos that got the most stick

I was told Holts is an acquired taste ... it takes a lot of effort to like it

I can cope (happily) with Mythos

.... but I do prefer Alfa - any outlets in Plakias?

I had a beer called Zorba during my first adventure in Plakias. Interesting.
But, here in the States I will usually settle on a Samuel Adams (Boston, MA, USA), Corona (Mexico) or if I'm in a good mood and it is being sold by the glass Bass Ale (one of my favorites).
My vote is cast for Mythos.

zorba's has done the job a few times for me but i've not seen it recently, i must have a look for sam adams

the peligramnos beach bar...  ( now who's that on the left?)

I'm a big fan of Corona. Its such a summery drink and quite refreshing that it's great for holiday drinking.

Quick answer to my above question .....

Alfa is available - on draught - at K/Costas Chrysoula; Sofia and Lamon .... and probably several other places, too.

Next question:

Does anybody else think that canned Mythos tastes:
    a}  nothing like Mythos?
    b}  as bad as any other canned lager?

Hello,

I can't answer this but I do think (bottled) Mythos is the best of the Greek beers and they are appropriate to the ambience and climate of Greece. However, none can compare to the complexity and scope of the wonderful range of real ales we have in England.

Hi, Mike,

No argument from me about the joys of British beers/ales .... however, I don't think they would be as enjoyable in Greece.  (Unless, like Dave {of the Village Store} you have been starved of them for a long time    .)

As you say, it's all about ambience and climate.  In Greece, my preferred swill is draught Alfa or bottled Fix (hard to find) - bottled Mythos is always a good alternative if neither of those is available.

Re. Amstel - having lived in Holland for a few years, the stuff served under that name in Greece is (1) definitely NOT Amstel and (2) bettered suited to Greece than the original but no substitute for Alfa or Mythos (IMHO).

Re. Zorbas - still haven't found any on sale!  We went in the Livicon (advertising board outside) only to be told "Sorry, there's no demand - we don't stock it any more."

1. It must be your taste buds - just like mine

2. In my simple world view, I thought c} was automatically part of b}

The only good thing about canned Mythos is the absence of the dreaded widgit  }[/i]
