Dotty, thank you.
That's a good picture of Freddy.
I've got a picture of Leftheris the doughnut man here thanks.

Yvonne, thanks for your post.  Perhaps I'd better emphasise that it's Sofia (A) by the harbour for the Plakforms Meet on Friday 10th September 2004.

Oh, well.  We'll probably pass each other in Reception!

Incidentally, what is the Paligremnos like?  There is very little mention of it on the Forum.  Though nowhere has anyone said anything bad about it.

Noopsy, re. your question "What is the Palegremnos like?"  Well, obviously we like it.  Why?  It's next to our favourite beach.  It has wonderful views.  Here is a picture of the village taken from a balcony at Palegremnos, and another and here you can see Palegremnos in the distance at the other end of the bay just to the right of Valerie.  There's plenty of parking space.  What in particular would you like to know?  The accommodation is much as you'd expect if you've been to a 'rent rooms' place, similar to all the others we've stayed in in Plakias.

As far as I know, it's owned by the usual dysfunctional family with one half running the downstairs taverna and the other running the accommodation on the floors above.  They don't appear to co-operate in any meaninful fashion.  If you ask one half about something run by the other they just send you to ask.  There is a picture of 'the old man' (grandfather I presume), in the accommodation reception area wearing traditional Cretan costume.  Worth seeing.

The lunch-time food in the taverna is excellent.  Try the Palegremnos salad and the plate of beans.  The service is amusing too.  Two brothers wait on, one of whom is very po faced.  I delight in making him crack it.  We were in there one year when a bus-load of Greeks turned up, shepherded by a priest, who took over half the tables and then carried in their own food off the coach!
The taverna is busy at lunch-time but very quiet at night when we invariably eat in the village.

My signature picture (below) was taken in the Palegremnos taverna.  Click the picture to see the large version and you can see the beach and sea in the background and also the Eastern headland of the bay.

Do you have any more specific questions?

Thanks, Compage.  That's filled the picture in a bit.  Now I know what to expect.  Just one more question though.  Why is the taverna quiet in the evenings?  Is the food not good?  (I ask because I plan to eat there in the evening once or twice (being a bit lazy to walk into town).)

I've no doubt the food is as good in the evening as it is a lunch-time.  It's just that most people like to stroll around the village before and after they eat, perhaps have a drink before and a coffee afterwards, perhaps a dessert, another drink, etc.  Really, the stroll into town and back on a September evening can be quite pleasant.  It's all on the flat and there's a good footpath.  Just watch out for the hosepipes crossing it!

Have another look at my post above.  I've edited it to add links to pictures.

Hi, my wife Lynne and myself will be ariving at Plakias August 31st for two weeks -we are definitely up for a night (nights?) with all you Plakias fans so please keep updating the site with the proposed date, venue & time. We had our first hoiday there last summer and I think we're hooked (it may take another 10 visits to confirm this though!)
Sofia was our favourite it can get busy but there is plenty of tables and the albanian waiters are nuts.
See you in September.

Regrettably will have left Plak by the 31st, but will be in Heraklion, so all plse enjoy. Will be back in the Sofia for a meal definately as we had great food in there last year.
Mind you, with all the good eating places around do not have enough nights to eat at each one.
Keep saying we'll try somehwere different, but difficult when you know what your getting and where you are going, and simply not going to get stressed about choice of eating place - not on hols.
Have a great night night though and wish everyone well.

Cheers

Pritch
