As the options are reducing, and with the help of the guide book, how about Sissi?

Changed my mind now. I think it is Sissi, and that the first picture of the beach is the sandy beach of Boufos on the east side of the village.

The Rough Guide doesn't say alot about Sissi. Is it worth a visit or a stay?

it was one of the first places we went to on our first visit to crete, we were based in hersonisos.

it was ok but to be quite honest i wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's already tasted the heady delights of the south coast

Thanks. It is difficult to find any where on the north coast to stay for a few days. We tried Georgioupolis a couple of years ago but after the second night we had had enough and headed back south.

I liked Kalives when I spent 2 weeks there in 2003- no "far-enders" beach though. It had several particularly good tavernas I remember. Also Almerida, the next resort along to the east. Hania is easily accessible by bus from both. Plakias and Paleohora are better than both of these though- as Chris (Harribobs) has said, you can't beat the south coast of Crete.

Several years ago we stayed at Palekastro right over on the east coast, very quite with long stretches of beach to ourselves, we enjoyed it but no matter where we try we always return to Plakias, it cannot be beaten. Daisy
