What I'd like is...
« on: February 07, 2006, 01:18:49 PM »
We all know want we like about Plakias and we all comment on the good, the bad and the ugly at times, but is there anything missing that you would like to see. Perhaps more of what's already there, or something completely new?
We've discussed the likes of Macdonalds, and the thought's of speeding bananas being dragged around the bay was screamed at by all, so let's not go there.

In my opinion, there's not much missing or, that could be improved.
My only thought's were that there could be more 'authentic' local bars and tavernas, not that there's anything wrong with the ones that are there.

As it's quiet at the moment, I thought this might be a good idea for discussion, there again...

A weekly market would be fine. With fruits, herbs, raki, wine from local farmers, fish and meat,  arts and crafts. And maybe a small dancehall with the right music for old men like me...    But we didn't miss much at all yet and the more things they add the more we fear that it will change the place in a way we will not like so much... For our childrens welfare we were sometimes happy to find the doctor and the pharmacy right in town.

I'd like to see a permanent site, as well as the beach outlet for Lefteris, the Donut Man.
As a far ender  , I tend to leave the beach before he gets to it, and I get withdrawal symtoms   when I don't get my extra vitamins  .

Are you sure it's nothing to do with the Viagra effect?

Ti, ti, ti;
Donut Man?  Please tell me what I've been missing and when.  I have been to Plakias for the past 4 years now, twice a year, June and September and have never seen the Donut Man.  We normally go to either Souda Bay (which I love) or Shinaria (the scenery on the way is stunning) for our daily swim, although we have also spent time at Plakias beach.  Where is he located?

I agree, and it would be good to see more watermelons on sale, right off the pick-up truck.

I would also like Greek elections to be held more often, as the mobile loudspeakers liven up the place. (just joking)

I quote (free translated) from a Dutch travel magazine “Reizen” February 06:

Quote:
Plakias:
Without doubt we stayed there much too short for an honest opinion, however when we say “tourist train”, you know enough……………
Festos is on top of the hill. We leave the archaeological site and drive in the direction of Plakias. No “concrete” tourism however empty beer tins on the beach, which do reveal our worst expectations.  ……………………..
Unquote

Conclusion:
Plakias needs following improvements:
No litter on the beach: I.e.: Littering tourists should be stripped naked and deported to the far end.
Tourist train to be camouflaged   (preferably by olive tree branches)

The only remarks we have:
the hardness of the Cretan mattresses. Slightly softer is preferred.
sometimes an electric kettle, a shower hook, and
dry toiletpaper after a shower.

the one thing I'd love to added to Plakias is to be linked to the south coast ferry route

at present it runs from paleohora, souyia, agia roumelli, loutro, spakia

IMHO it would be great for the town

maybe it could stop at Frangokastello as well.

Failing that, they should reinstate the bus to sphakia.

I agree with you on this one Chris.

Nice to see you back in the Forum after several weeks away. I wasn't the only one to wonder if you were OK.
