We will be looking at some other samples in "Quinten Matsijs" Antwerp this weekend. Does it sounds familiar to you?

Beachcombers and Harribobs we are locals and also know F & F.

It might be nice to meet sometime in Antwerp (I must warn you that the weather is dreadfull at the moment, rain, wind, cold.... , but I expect that must also be so in England and Walcheren in the Netherlands ? )

I am amazed that you would know the Quinten Matsijs, it is not particulary easy to find...

I see, i would love a visit to Antwerp but i don't know when we'll be over, hopefully we get a visit to Flanders in the New Year

you are right, the weather in the UK is the same, cold, windy and lots of rain

i only found the Quinten Matsijs through a google search, I don't think I have ever been there, but i'm always happy to try a new pub!     No doubt beachcombers are recovering from their visit

I have added a new belgium beer to my knowledge this weekend, Kwak!  very nice it was as well

Hi LoukaFran,
We were at   "Quinten Matsijs" last Friday ± 16:00,  a bit too early and found the place quite empty    therefore decided to go a bit further and had a few Leffe blondes  at  "t 'Miniatuurske" had dinner in "t'Hofke"and ended in "'van Beveren". with a lot of "bollekes"
I think we know our way in Antwerp.
Looking forward to meet you in some pubs in Antwerp similar to above mentioned two pubs .
NB Harribobs,
It is really a once in life time experience if you are fully open to other people's life!

Nice photo ! Cafe Beveren is very well known for the atmosphere.

I am surprised you can buy Kwak over there Harribobs.

I expect you did not drink it in the long tall glas with the wooden holder ?

It's a very tricky way of drinking beer. Either you do not manage to get a sip or else you get the whole lot over you...

A warning: because of the fact that the beerglass and wooden holder are so special the tradition used to be that when you ordered a Kwak you had to give one of your shoes as a deposite. This shoe would only be given back when you returned the glass and holder. Your shoe would be put in a sort of fishingnet and would be raised up to the ceiling so that you could not reach it.   In some cafés this tradition still exists !!

I was very surprised myself to find the shop myself, it is in the south of the city where i don't go very often, they are selling belgium specialities...including beer

they must have had 30 or so beers, mostly christmas specials but Leffe ( which I have found a good place to buy cheaply, not is shop) also Orval and a few others I had heard of

they were selling Kwak gift set with a very strange glass, but we could not work it out, mandy thought it would be better for putting flowers in

great story about the shoe and the net !  I think i have GOT to get one of those glasses now  ( and some kwak to drink from it   )

Chris be warned: Translations of "kwak":
to dumb; to plump; to dash down; thud; dab; blob; blotch...

Perhaps a 3 day training course in Belgium is required!

3 day course sounds like a good idea, with a refresher in the Netherlands as well??

I have dropped a few hints about the kwak glass so maybe santa will bring me one, if I'm good
