A disco I infrequently visited (in my first youth) had some glasses with this shape as one of it's major attractions. Only difference was that they were 1 meter long.       You were only allowed to try them if you took part in a beer drinking race on the stage. Yes, an extra pair of shoes + shirt and trousers would have been useful for all the contestants.

you know it hadn't occured to me that it was a smaller version of those glasses, we have the same in the UK called 'a yard of ale' glass

I can advise to change over to the metric system
As you can see much easier to handle

1 meter beer:

[attachment=281:attachment]

and the calculations are much simpler too

1 meter = 1000 mm
1 yard   = 36000 mil  (914.4 mm)

I don't quite get it!  Can you convert it to Euros please.

Surely a yard is 1.705 litres?

No, that would make it 39.35 inches.

there are certain times when you really need that beer, coming off the beach on a hot day, at the end of hard days walking (or in the middle)

so which one do you go for?

If those Belgium beers are as good as you suggest, then I'm glad they're not available here. They would wreck my economy long before they got to the liver.

I tried a canned Guinness last Saturday. 2,50 GBP at the supermarket and it left me slightly irritated  and yearning desperately for a real one.    Only 8 more weeks (being positive here), before I can settle down in a Yorkshire pub for a few.
