2. Souda/Chania was 42c. .... that's one helluva temperature gradient in such a short distance.
It's quite possible for the temperature to vary by that much in such a short distance. I recently went by bus from Rathymnon to Iraklion. I was watching the thermometer in the bus and it went down by about 5 digrees and then back up again in that distance.
Greecemad
I can agree with greecemad.
As we arrived on the 05/05/07 we went by our car from Chania to Rethymnon and than to Plakias and the temperature was very different.
On our date of departure (19/05/07) we started in Plakias in the afternoon and it was raining and raining again, we had only 17 degrees.
As we arrived on the north coast (Rethymnon) the rain stopped and we had 24 degress. As we arrrived in the old town of Chania we had
approx. 30 degrees and it was very hot and hymiditiy was extreme. (But we had a nice afternoon in Chania, before we went to the airport).
I think the mountains keep the weather sometimes away and therefore it is so much different.
