We've always visited Plakias in Spring or Autumn before but this year we're visiting next week (June 26).  I had a quick look at the BBC weather page and it is predicting a temperature of 45C on Sunday.  What will this be like?  Will there be a breeze?  Will I need to stay in my room with the A/C on!?  Any tips?
Thanks Alison

It still is!!!! However Yahoo is only saying 30C which is a huge difference. I shouldn't like the former, although others like George might.

BRING IT ON!!

If it is 45C it will be exceedingly hot and the gauranteed breeze will help but be very carefull, this kind of combination is deceiving and you could end up with your skin dropping off.
Be very carefull Alison, especially if you have fair skin.

You have been warned!

Have a good holiday!!

Just returned last night and it was certainly getting VERY hot towards the end. I think it was about 35 ish in the afternoon. Lying on the beach on a beach mat became unbearable, needing frequent trips into the sea (burning your feet in the process). There was a breeze at times (enough to blow unsuspecting umbrellas about) but not all the time, and no sign of the Meltemi.

Even the Greeks were all saying 'Poli Zesti' and fanning themselves. I travelled from Rethymnon to Iraklion on the 7.45 p.m. bus and the thermometer was showing 29-30 most of the time, even during the evening. I had to ask to use the air conditioning on the last night as I couldn't sleep the night before.

They seem to think it's going to get hotter.

Just had an Email from freinds living in Plakias an they inform me that the temperature at the moment is 37-38C IN THE SHADE and due to get to 43-44C by Sat/Sun
(can't wait till we go on Tuesday) I suppose I will have to stay in the shade at the Lamon and try to keep cool with a cold Mythos (gosh life's a bitch isn't it?)

That's better! That's what the BBC is forecasting.

Hopefully it will warm everything up by the time I get there, including the sea, we're going to need it if it carries on.

My sympathy for the residents, who have to live with it.

OH NO!  I'm going to have to hide this news from John or he won't get on the plane!   John and Zell - I wonder if by any chance you are on the same flight as us next Tuesday - 10.15 from Gatwick to Chania?  We've always flown to Heraklion before so looking forward to seeing some new sights on the journey to Plakiaa.

Very odd. For Sunday the BBC is still showing 45°C for Heraklion and 42°C for Hania but only 30°C for Karpathos, Rhodes, and Santorini, which aren't that far away.
