Where to go / Lesbos - Molivos

I just wanted to check back in. Have not been on the forum for a while. (Busy busy, you know how it goes.) Anyway, my husband and I enjoyed our week's holiday in Molivos on Lesbos very much indeed. It was everything we thought it would be and more. The weather was fantastic, sunny all the time and just the right temperature. A little chilly in the evening, but this meant you got a good night sleep. The restaurants were excellent and the Adonis Hotel charming. We did some sightseeing around the island as well and were on the whole very impressed by it. Molivos is a little pricier than Plakias but still quite reasonable and good value for money.

Hello everyone ! My husband and I are taking a week's holiday without the kids at the end of May. We were going to revisit Plakias, as we loved it so much last summer, but then we decided to try another Greek island, as there are still so many to explore. Inspired by some comments on this forum, we decided to go for Molivos on Lesbos. We are leaving on Monday 26 May and are staying at Hotel Adonis. From the descriptions I've read, Molivos sounds like a very romantic place, perfect for our little escape from our busy jobs and family life! If anyone has any tips for us, they would be most welcome.

Where to stay / Kostas-Chrysoulla Studios

I am looking at next years holiday, and was wondering about this accommodation.

Are any of them 2 room apartments, so that my wife & I can have the bedroom, and my 2 children can sleep in the lounge/kitchen or whatever you want to call it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I can confirm that they have exactly what you want at Kostas Chryssoula. We stayed there the first two weeks of July. We had booked through Neckermann. The apparment we had was actually called "Christina appartments", but they belong to the Kostas Chryssoula family. We had a room to ourselves, with balcony and bathroom and then a second very large room with a small kitchen in it and 2 single beds for our kids + a balcony. It was all very large and very clean. I do not know whether there are more such rooms in the other buildings (there are 5 different buildings), but I think there are ...

Plakias / Reporting In

Hello everyone. We are  back from our first holiday in Plakias. Our oldest daughter visited last summer as well (in fact, she insisted we go there for our hols this year) but for the rest of us it was a first. We stayed at Kostas Chryssoula from 30 June until 14th July. I have not written sooner, because I could not face going on the forum and being reminded that it was all over, whilst many of you are still going out later this year. I must say that we had an absolutely fantastic time. It was hot, but not too hot. It was very windy many days, but it did not bother us that much. There were some days where you could not sit on the main beach, but then around the corner past the harbor, it usually blows less.

The hotel was just fine. They actually put us up at Christina appartments, and they were large. We had a 2 bedroom flat with our 2 youngest children. Our 2 teenage children had a studio flat next to ours. The owner of the supermarket below us was a friendly Englishman. (Forgot his name). Our favourite restaurant was Gio-Ma. We had some wonderful fish there. Other restaurants I would definitely recommend are Tasomanolis, Sirocco and Harakas. The worst meal we had was at Mouses and we did not really enjoy the food a the Panorama restaurant at Mirthios either. They were our only negative experiences though. All the other restaurants we visited were excellent and the food was very cheap indeed ! Our teenagers fell in love with the Ostraco bar and we had quite a few mojitos there ourselves.

The town and the beaches were not crowded at all, although it seemed to be picking up slightly towards the end of the second week. The local youngsters seemed to be happy with the arrival of our kids, because there had been mainly older people until we arrived !

I remember people talking about the German girls who rescue dogs and cats from Crete. Well, we did our bit for animal welfare as well. Some other Belgians staying at our hotel wanted to take a puppy home. It was tied up to an old boat behind the hotel somewhere. It belonged to an Albanian who beat it and did not give it any water and very little food. The family "rescued" it, but did not have the time to arrange for the dog to travel home with them. So they asked us to help. With the help of the German girls who arranged everything very efficiently for us, we took the doggie back to Belgium with us and delivered him to his new owner. He is happy and well and living in Mechelen.

All in all, a great holiday. We will definitely be back some time.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Conversion to Euros is not an issue for us, as we come from Belgium. We mostly use VISA, so good news that this seems to be widely accepted.

12 days to go before we visit Plakias for the first time. We can't wait. In the meantime, I have a very practical question for those of you who have been to Plakias recently. Can you pay with credit cards in bars, restaurants and shops in Plakias ? Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Plakias / Diving in Plakias

Thanks for the tip, Leen! A Dutch diving school might indeed be practical for Belgians, especially Flemish ones, like me. However, my husband is Danish and although he has learnt Dutch over the years and I have learnt Danish, we still speak English together most of the time. Language, therefore, isn't an issue. The quality of the dive school is more important, particularly their attention to safety issues.

Hello everyone. Well, we've done it. We have booked our first holiday to Plakias! We will be staying the first 2 weeks of July. My husband used to be a keen diver. He hasn't done much in the last few years, because of back problems and lack of time. He has turned to cycling instead. However, he would like to dive again this summer. Also, our teenage kids would like to have a go at diving. Does anyone have any experience with the dive centre in Plakias ?

Plakias / first time

Thank you John. I do expect it to be windy, I just would not want it to be so windy that we had to stay indoors ! I am sure that on the days where the beach is inaccessible because there is too much sand blowing around, we can find other things to do. Does the wind tend to be less strong if you go inland a bit ?

Plakias / first time

Vogliamo andare a Plakias l'anno prossimo, nel mese di luglio. Abbiamo 4 figli di 6, 8, 15 e 17 anni. Pensi che faccia troppo vento nel mese di luglio ? Ho letto che c'è sempre molto vento a Plakias.

For the non-Italian speakers: is the wind a problem in July ? We'd like to go there next year with our four kids and I wouldn't want the wind to spoil it for us.
