12 days to go before we visit Plakias for the first time. We can't wait. In the meantime, I have a very practical question for those of you who have been to Plakias recently. Can you pay with credit cards in bars, restaurants and shops in Plakias ? Thanks in advance for any advice given.

I saw numerous people using cards last year so I shouldn't think anything has changed any.

We had no problems to use our credit cards.
Sometimes we could only use the VISA-Card and not the MASTERCARD. Not all restaurants accept the MASTERCARD.

I used credit cards in some shops last year. They still had the old slide system, but the cards were accepted.

A couple of comments.

Firstly, on recent foriegn trips I have used a Nationwide CC. Nationwide doesn't make additional charges on foreign transactions as many do and I received an exchange rate of about €1.47 to the £ when the best cash would buy in the UK was €1.40.

Secondly, make sure the transaction goes through in Euros. Some establishments will convert to pounds (at a very disadvantageous rate for you) and bill you thus.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Conversion to Euros is not an issue for us, as we come from Belgium. We mostly use VISA, so good news that this seems to be widely accepted.
