As it turns out, you were not right after all, and neither was I when I put the captions on the pictures.
When I took those pictures five and six years ago there were no accurate road maps and not all of the mountain villages had their names on road signs as you enter.
Regular visitors to this area of Crete will also be aware of the local habit of using such signs for target practice, rendering some unreadable.
Therefore when editing the pictures at home some time later I was using a combination of poor information and (apparently inaccurate) assumptions.
But enough excuses.
This year we went back to the village where those pictures were taken and discovered that it was, in fact, Moundros.
It still does not have official road signs at either end but has privately errected signs to aid identification.
