Lysseos

I have been to Lysseos in Oct. 2007 - and again: It was fantastic!!!  
My favorite is the chicken in wineleaves - but whatever I ever ordered - it was always a big pleasure to have my dinner there.

I am going to be the lone dissenting voice on this issue.
 
The Chicken Curry that I had at Lysseos was certainly the most oddest 'curry' that I have ever encountered (maybe they sent out the wrong food?).

It consisted of a whole chicken leg sticking up in a (very) mildly spiced stock and some cooked vegetables.

Certainly worth going for if you like a surprise with your curry.
 
The surprise being that there is no curry in it though...

I haven't tried the chicken curry yet but P&D's daughter Tracy did last year and I must admit it did look a bit odd when it turned up. As you said it looks nothing like a curry but she ate it and said it was nice. So perhaps I'll give it a try.

Never had a bad meal in Lysseous, and will keep going back if only to see the fab Lito!!

Ethnic recipes are often adapted to suit the local palate - I remember having an Indian in Spain in a restaurant staffed by a Bangladeshi family that tasted nothing like the Bangladeshi food we have at our local Indian.

I am not a curry fan, but even I was I don't think I'd go for one at a Greek restaurant. Since Lysseos is a Cypriot restaurant I would stick to the Greek and Cypriot dishes - they are always excellent.

Back home 2 nights and missing Lysseos already.  Had been fairly quiet but food wonderful as always - until next time!

Only ate here once....the last two years we have avoided it !!!!

We were sat near the kitchens, and could constantly hear the sound of the ping of the microwave !!!! Seems to have been more empty last few years we have been past....

I can assure everyone that the food in Lysseos is freshly sourced and prepared and of the highest quality.

Lysseous has always been a favourite of mine and I am puzzled as to where one could be sat  to hear the 'ping' of the microwave.
 However, having returned from Plakias on 28th May following a 2 week holiday I was surprised how few tables were occupied at Lysseous each evening. In previous years it was a case if you did not get there by 7.30pm there would not be a table available.

It is not only Lysseous who seem to be suffering in the present economic climate, apart from Gorgona and Kri Kri the tavernas had significantly fewer diners than at the same time in previous years as holidaymakers seem to be opting for self catering.

The ping you can hear is an order bell that the kitchen uses to inform waiting staff a meal is ready.  We also do not rate the Food. Small portions and we ate tastier food elsewhere. We had another try last year but it was not for us.
There were only two places that did not live up to our expectations.
I suspect one of them was because it was so quiet the kitchen was not prepared.

Again I don't get the comment.  Never once heard a ping in all the years I have frequented the restaurant.  It is such a tightly run ship with Lito at the helm that there is no need to attract the waiting staff's attention - they spend most of the time in and out of the kitchen anyway with Lito front of house.  And if a dish is ready to go out and staff busy elsewhere Lucas the chef will bring it out personally.  They take great pride in what they serve.

Anyway I've had my say and would suggest people give it a go and judge for themselves.
