Hi Laura Jane,My girlfriend and I are both 20, so could be the youngst people that have been to Plakias on this forum. We have just returned from are first 2 weeks there last tuesday and loved it.
Bars i recommend for young people are: as mentioned the bar above Ostraco called the Balcony bar. Here they play music videos on a big screen, the music is ok Michael Jackson and some new UK chart music etc. The best time to go there is the weekends, it can get really busy then, this is when alot of the greeks go there also. It can have a good atmosphere. Another good thing about this bar is that you can sit out on the balcony and look down on the main street below and watch the world go round!

Theres also a good sit down bar up the road abit from balcony bar. Cant remember the name of it. Its next door to a car hire place and opposite the car park where the coach will drop you off. here they have funky seats and also play english music.

Enjoy

'Extra Vitimina!!' The Doughnut man is a bit of a legend around Plakias and the surrounding beaches. He walks around to each beach most days and sells very tasty doughnuts to beach dwellers, well worth a try..

Hey Laura

Suspect that there won't be enough young people around from our Forum for you to socialise

Suggest you hang around in Nufaro (next to the butchers on the prom) and meet some folk from the youth hostal. They are usually an interesting and sociable international crowd and may be able to point you in interesting directions

The seasonal barmen are often young Australians

If you go to the youth hostal site you may be able to contact Emma before you go ... she is English and spent some time in Plakias last year !!

Good Luck

Stick of Rock

Hi Laura

I was going to suggest YH crowd aswell, if you go to the Library you will prob see Andy & Alan ( not your age group ) but they will beable to introduce you some who are. I'm will be calling Andy this week & will tell him you might pop in.

BTW.....I'm liking the sound of the aussie barmen.....lets hope they venture out on to the beach!

Refreshing comments Laurajane, for someone your age, although I suspect most of us have been through that phase. I've done 3 club 18-30's to all the obvious places but one tends to settle down after a while, especially when they discover places like Plakias.
Hope you enjoy your stay!!!

well I used to go to spain before I was old enough to argue. I used to go with a friends family that liked all the usual touristy airtours type places....eating MacDonalds..that kind of thing. Then when I was about 15 I went to Greece with my Dad somewhere in Corfu that was tiny and unspoilt. Deciding I loved Greece I then went to Sidari snd hated it.......ever since then I am very fussy where I go!

Macdonalds...    ... touristy things...

Hopefully your going to be even more fussy when you get back from Plakias. I've been looking for an alternative for years and I still haven't found one.  even on Crete.

Don't forget to let us know what you thought 'good or bad'

We stayed in Sidari in Corfu a couple of years ago ----- probably the worst holiday we have ever had.

Hey Laura, just do what these guys say hang around Nufaro (otherwise known as Joe's, tell Joe Chris sent you) at night but don't get there before midnight otherwise it's dead.  I just got back from Plakias a week ago stopping at the hostel and pretty much all the younger ones (and some of the older ones) end up there at night.  Shame your going in August as I'm not due to go back till October.  Sure you'll have a great time tho and Damnoni beach is about 1/2 an hour walk from Plakias and its a nice walk as long as its not too hot.

What to do if you're trapped with no hope of rescue:...
Consider how lucky you are that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you which is more likely given your current circumstances, consider how lucky you are that it won't be bothering you much longer!

Try being a far-ender! That's a liberating experience!

Sorry, but can you explain me what does it mean?
(google translation of "far-ender" doesn't work for italian language!)
