cheap flights

For anyone interested and still to book a flight to Crete, xl.com have knocked 20% off all their seat prices.  I've used them several times and found them very reliable.

Sorry Alex G you should have waited - there again so should I!

I've just made an exact comparison via a dummy booking for my dates and they are still considerably more expensive than the new BA scheduled flights from Manchester even with that discount. I wonder if that BA competition is beginning to hurt.

We booked our September flights with XL in January and paid £8 each less than they are now advertising!

Ian, I have just worked out the cost of this years holiday taking into account the extra money I paid on my air ticket I am still saving £400 on the price I would have paid by booking with Olympic.I feel a lot better now, I will not have to cut down on my drinking. Alex G

Hi John,I checked out BA before I booked my flight  with XL but from Glasgow all return flights meant an overnight stay for me, although it was a lot cheaper. I take it this was not the case from manchester? as a matter of interest how much was it from Manchester?as this could have been an option for me. Regards Alex G

I can get to Newcastle, Manchester or Glasgow without the need for an overnight stay. Newcastle is my much preferred option (One hour away) Manchester is about 2 hours drive. With the very cheap flight from Manchester coupled even more importantly with the option of a further 3 nights stay (Tues outgoing, Fri incoming) I broke all my previous rules and this year chose Manchester.  Good flight times as well  We set off at 15:20 which is an excellent time for us to travel there and park up without having to set off at a silly hour and to get into Heraklion at not too silly a time (21:25). All these features made me decide to give Manchester a try - something I've said for 10 years that I would not do !!

Also BA scheduled. flights, internet checkin, choose your own seats,  more legroom, more luggage allowance etc. etc. I'll see what it is like and then make a more considered choice next year. The one big mistake I've made is that I have a lot of airmiles and could have used them to pay for this flight - I forgot all about them. Next year ......................

The total return cost for two including taxes is £273 (£178 fare + £95 taxes) This is for setting off on 26 Sept and returning 13 Oct.

Hi John, sorry I mislead you it was not a stopover flight, it was flying from Glasgow to gatwick then to Heraklion, mind you that is not the case from Manchester so I will probably try that when I go in September. Alex G

Ah - I see. I also found when I checked the BA site for flights from Newcastle to Heraklion they also offered me a booking via Gatwick. That booking was still a little cheaper than a direct charter flight from Newcastle to Heraklion - which surprised me somewhat.  However it was not such a great difference that I would have chosen it - with the inconvenience of a stopover.

Hello John,

I would be interested to know about the legroom and baggage allowance on BA for future reference (re. legroom, I'm 6' 4").

Booked our flights in Aug, costing just over £1000 for the 4 of us - bargain,
as far as leg-room sure I saw something about 31 inches between seats.
As for baggage -

Adult/child Baggage allowance is 23 kg per person
For detailed checked (hold) baggage allowance, including
infant allowances, click the link below

Hope that helps,
Cheers
