Sounds like good news:    According to the newsletter "TO BYMA" the greek Primierminister Mr. Kostas Karamanlis signed contracts with the chinese partners to build bigger container terminals in Pireus and Saloniki. Timbaki on Crete was not part of this contracts due to its poor infrastructural facilities which have to be built there and are already existing in the other places.

Thanks for that Shinaria, that has made my day. All my favourite beaches are within oil spill distance of Timbaki, and while I understand the local's enthusiasm for the project I was dreading the effect it would have in the long term.
I always check ekathemerini but haven't found To Byma online. Is htere a link or do you get the paper sent to you?

Thank you Shinaria, it is indeed a happy day now.
I had thought that it would be a huge investment to develop Timbaki, with the roads what they are it seemed unlikely, Heraklion would be better if it had to be Crete.
The idea of a container terminal made even the golf course proposal seem attractive!
As a South Coast lover, I've been 'lurking' for a while but had to join to post my question. That's a great site, thanks for the link, although it is a struggle translating it, my Greek is far from fluent! Still, it's all good practise.
