Hi I have just booked the Hotel Lamon for 2 weeks next august, has anyone stayed there and can tell me what its like please?
How close is it to the harbour and would it be worth bringing a small fishing rod?
Thanks in advance

The Hotel Lamon is directly on the sea front - over the road is the sea. It is very central so you may find it a bit noisy - but that depends on your expections.   It has been refurbished since I stayed there many years ago so cannot say anything about its quality. It is very close to the harbour, just a few minutes walk.

We stayed in the Lamon the last 2 weeks of August. The rooms are basic, we were B&B (Breakfast was bread, butter, jam and a cake + tea or coffee, a bit boring after 2 weeks) and apart from a fridge in the room, it had no other cooking/drinks facilities.
We were in one of the rooms that had not been refurbished, but it was OK. The air-con was extra (3 euros per night). Safety deposit was in a locked draw in reception (1.5 euros per night).
The seating area in front of the hotel is wonderful to 'people watch' (It is also where breakfast is taken)
The serving staff were very attentive and helpful. The rooms were cleaned every day, and the linen was changed very regularly.
We did not suffer from any nuisance noise problems at night (people on an early morning departure woke us on one occasion, with the wheels of the suitcases on the marble floor). We had expected some noise due to its location, but were pleasantly surprised. The pool is small (approx 10metres x 10 metres), but the beach is only across the road.
We enjoyed our stay at the Lamon and would not hesitate to return there (only not on B&B).
As for your fishing rod, there were people fishing from the harbour, but I don't know how sucessful they were.

i know Yannis from explorecrete and i think he's a miserable sod ( sorry yannis if you read this but that's my opinion  ) he lives in Heraklion anyway

there's plenty of kids and retired guys fishing off the jetty (with rods ...not dynamite) and if anyone cares to walk up the jetty and look in the water, there lots of shoals of little fish..little fish grow

ask the guys in Christos and gi-oma and they say there fish is local   and  i love it!

as for the main street being noisey......   we aren't talking about malia or hersonisos here, we're talking about one kid going home on his moped

(bruce...good pics mate)

Thanks for the replies, we are looking forward to it.

We will have to take some cornflakes for breakfast I think.

As long as the sun shines and I can have a swim and a beer I will be happy.
