Towels on Loungers
« on: September 15, 2005, 10:56:32 AM »
Just back from Plakias and a bit saddened to see that the practice of trying to pre-book loungers/brollies has now crept from Germany to Britain with Brits seeking to secure their place in the sun by 'booking' loungers on Plakias beach.

Dear oh dear.

In Sougia where there aren't so many sunbeds people "book" bits of the beach instead...

I found that alonso! Last Wednesday a week ago I thought I'd get to the beach early because of the new input, and thought it might be busy. I was at the far end just before 9.00am and most of the loungers/brollies on the back row were either taken or had towels on. There were 2 German couples, but unfortunately all the rest were English. This was the same every time I went to the beach after that!
It's very frustrating and unfair when the owners of the towels don't turn up for another hour or more. One couple didn't turn up till after 2.00pm!

in the past, when we used to be on the beach (or by the pool) all day, i would simply move the towels into a nice pile and look innocent

In some resorts with rooms inclusive chairs & umbrella it is advised by the staff to drop a towel in the early morning as a sign that chairs will be occupied that day.
NB It is not our style   as if it is so crowded we move on and seek for a quieter place.

when we do go on the 'far end' these days ( and it's usually just for an hour or so)  we prefer the dunes anyway

i don't really like being too close to people and for the same reason don't go to Micro Amoudaki much, i don't like turning over to find my nose up someone's

Are there really any statistical significant correlations between beeing from Germany and occupying sunchairs with a towel? I never did till now but if it´s necessary to meet the expectations I´ll try it next time... [Though I hate to occupy anything]

Peace, flowers, freedom, happyness!

The solution is to go at the end of July/August...there is no competition for sun loungers on the beach.

I couldn't believe it was so quiet on the beach so I am going again next year at the same time-idyllic.

I spoke to the guy who looks after the loungers at the far end and he said that his busiest time is always September because the place is full of brits and there is usually a mad scramble for sun loungers...

All true - and we've been to Plakias in May, June, July and October previously but (as we found this year) September is definitely the best for sea and air temperature. October - if the weather's good, is great - we had the entire tree area to ourselves!

I'm glad I've already booked for next year. With this little secret now being out we're going to find Towels on the outgoing plane seats for this time of the year. :'(

12 days to go and counting
