What's the one that's almost, if not next door to Dave and Ali's, that's closed down? I also noticed that the Glaros around the corner at the top of the hill has closed as well.

If I remember right John O was good friends with the family.

Just noticed my posts, spooky, it's also my average weight 66.6

Glaros was always a favourite of mine - when it was run by Nikos a few years back.
He was refused the renewal of his lease, and the owners started to run it - and in the process ran it into the ground!
Nikos has, however, been working ar Sophias for the last few year - I'll be there next Wednesday having my first Raki of the holiday with him!

I hope I've got the right one Chris or rather the right place. There is definately a deserted restaurant down one of those roads that I had always seen open before. It never was very busy though.

The trouble is I can't remember the name Barny, and it's difficult to describe. Small place at street level, solid canopy over the top of the open area at the front, and it went back a little at the left hand side.

I've got loads of RAKI!!

the place i'm talking about (not the Ariadne) is actually on the corner as you turn into the road to the KC, george has described it perfectly

this May it had been refurbished and was saying it's self the Mini Oko ( or the like) and it was very good, we ate there a couple of times

the Ariadne wasn't open in May at all

You are describing Ariadne, George - it was one of our favourites a few years back.

The taverna that is shut is Ariadne (opposite Anso) which was run last year by british couple.  We used to eat there all the time when we were here on holiday but it went down hill.

The new taverna is what was 'Tavernaki' as people have sent on the road further up from shop and the corner to K.C.  It is called Minoiko and is run by Yiorgos (who used to wait at Tasomanolis) and his wife Elefteria.  Had many good reports from there with many people going back night after night.  We went before the season and had a good meal but unfortunately the only night recently we could go with friends they decided to have a night off, very selfish

Definitely worth a visit.

Has anyone that booked at the Kostas and booked independently, find it strange that no deposit was asked for, as in years of doing it myself, I have always been asked for a credit card or a deposit!

I don't know about Kostas but when we booked this year at Stalla's we were not asked for any deposit - just told the key would be in the door for when we arrived. When we arrived there was no suggestion that we should cough up some money. The level of trust exhibited by the locals is just one of the things we like about Crete.

We booked the Flisvos rooms directly and was told by the owner Maria no deposit was necessary. There was no hurry to pay on arrival either, in fact when I went to pay (in full) on our 2nd day she seemed a little suprised.
Could not imagine that hapening in the UK.

I agree, I booked the Stella for two weeks and no one mentioned payment, and even on my last day I had to have a good look around to find Markos to pay him! Imagine it over here, a bloke on his own that you have never seen stopping for two weeks!
Is it next summer yet?

I thought payment on the last day of your stay at a hotel was the norm anywhere (unless your stay was part of a pre-paid package).

At Stella's they will ask for and hang on to your passport when you arrive - presumably this is only if they don't know you already.
