Can any of the regular recent visitors to Plakias advise what bus services there are likely to be there in May.

Thanks

Mike

Mike, there are  4 or 5 buses a day to Rethymnon, the first one leaving at 9.30am.  There also 2 buses each day to Hora Sfakion, the first leaving very early.  Not sure of the time of the last one.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information Yvonne.

Does this mean that there are no buses to places east such as Matala and Aghia Galini (without having to change in Rethymnon that is)?

Mike,

To get to Aghia Galini you have to take the bus to Rethymnon, get off at a place called Bale or Bali (not to be confused with a place of the same name on the N Coast of Crete) and change onto a bus coming from Rethmnon to Aghia Galini. Acutally Bale is just a taverna near the road junction in the middle of nowhere.

To get to Matala you have to go to Aghia Galini as above, take another bus going to Iraklion and get off at Festos then take yet another bus coming from Iraklion to Matala.

To get to Matala is probably as quick to go via Rethymon and Iraklion.

Thanks Greecemad. Are timetables widely available in Plakias? Is it likely that the summer schedules will have commenced by May (our dates are 10th-24th)?

Thanks again.

Hi Mike,

You can look at:

[a href=\"http://www.aktaia-studios.gr/buscedual.htm]http://www.aktaia-studios.gr/buscedual.htm[/url]

Not sure how recent it is though.

Google brings up a few things.

Mike,

The timetable for buses from Rethymnon to Plakias and Aghia Galini can be found on the following site:

http://www.bus-service-crete-ktel.com/main.html

I don't know when they start the summer timetable or whether they just add extra buses as it gets nearer summer, but there should be more than there are now by May.

You will certainly find information in Plakias about buses as far as Aghia Galini and they will tell you which buses have connections.

I wouldn't have thought anyone would be serious about going beyond Aghia Galini by bus but it's a different bus company and I can't find a website for it. I've done all the bus journeys in past years though not the whole journey on one day. I was planning to do Matala to Plakias a couple of years ago and worked out that by leaving early in the morning I could reach Plakias by mid afternoon. In the end I got a lift all the way with some people who were staying in the next room - I introduced them to Plakias.
