Be honest now!!

Has anyone here been to Plakias and...well...not thought it that great?  Or did I miss something? For me at least, other places have much more to offer. Those that know me will know what I'm going to say next - it's Naxos for me every time!

I guess the perfect holiday place is somewhere that offers exactly what I want.
For me, this is Plakias, and while I recognise that it lacks things that others might like, it suits me just fine!
Rob, you've found your perfect place - so stay with it my friend. Me? - I'll be in Plakias again next year (twice!)

Funny thing is I can't really say why. The beaches were good, weather (apart from the wind) great, company fab,  yet...I suppose Crete as a whole is a bit big for me and I prefer small islands. Best I can come up with, really!!

Having been to Naxos, I agree it is a very pleasant island - as are Paros, Mykonos and Santorini among the smaller islands.  Plakias has that something extra for
us.  Maybe it is the virus we caught on our first visit, only to be cured by further visits year after year!  hey ho!

I agree, Naxos is a very nice island, I took a motorbike and rode around the island.
But I also went back to Plakias for keeps. I guess, any holiday place is different for everybody according to their experiences, passions and physical comfort. Plakias for me had all those, nice beaches, mountains to climb, cheap food and booze and lots of romances. Also freshwater streams and very nice Greeeks. But even if I had'nt all that, I think the topography of the place makes it the most attractive I have ever seen, and I been round the world man.

Hi everyone

I know a lot of beauty places all over greece and every place has got its own.
I think too, it's the topography of the Finikas County, that makes Plakias so unique. The Lybian Sea in front, the high Mountains and deep gorges behind, fresh Water from the Rivers and legal nudist sunbathing near the village provides a small touch of paradise.

Well, we tried Plakias last year because we read some good things about it (mostly from this website).  

We had previously been to Kefalonia, Corfu and Ithaka, which we loved, for several years and were looking for somewhere else that seemed a bit similar - laid back atmosphere, good food in friendly restaurants, warm seas etc...  

Unfortunately, for us, Plakias did not live up to our expectations.  True, the rooms were adequate and the whole village was pleasant to look at, but we found the sea was often too rough, the wind often too strong and the food often poorly cooked and badly presented.  We did spend some time driving around to look at other parts of the island but were not very impressed with any of it.  

I should say that we have also tried Rhodes (hated it) and Lesbos (quite nice) but so far we have to say the Ionian Islands seem to have got it just right for us.

I am sorry if this upsets some of you but I am sure you have your own reasons for loving Plakias.

Personally, I've found my heaven - but accept that it's not right for everyone.
I hope you find your Plakias very soon!

I can imagine Plakias not suiting everyone but not because there is anything really wrong with it. We have a bolt hole we use every year (our Spring Plakias) in North West Scotland in May - we don't complain when wet and windy, nor when the restuarant next door has an off day. We don't go to the beach at all :" (but love Plakias for its natural beauty - winds, rough seas and all - friendly people , locals and residents and what must be a world record for numbers of long standing return visitors to any one place !!. The food we have always found to be excellent. However we do know people (nice people) to whom we would not recommend it.

Alisos, please don't take this the wrong way but I am really pleased to hear that someone isn't keen on Plakias.
After all, if everyone who went there liked it as much as I do it would get terribly crowded and then I wouldn't like it either!

JohnR, until last June I'd have said the same as you about the record for the number of return visitors.
However, we went to Paxos last year and were amazed to find that at least 95% of the visitors we met had been there many times before.
We even met people who had been there for the last 25 or (in one case) 30 years.
It isn't cheap either.
