Has work started yet?
« on: September 23, 2003, 11:23:28 AM »
Hi Everyone

For the first time in a while we didn't go to Plakias this year and boy did we miss it. We decided to have a year out and try somewhere new. Although it was very nice it just wasn't Plakias and we found ourselves comparing it all the time. When we got back there was no decision to be made for next year, it has to be Plakias.

So, we are thinking about accommodation and where to stay and quite fancy the Artemis studios however, we know that the Alianthos is planning to build a new Hotel and we were wondering if work is underway. If not, has anyone heard any rumurs as to when work is likely to start?  I really do not want to be too close to a building site because of the noise.

Sounds like everyone had a great time at the meal and I look forward to joining you all next year, so may I be the first to say put me down for two places!

Cheers

Susan

Hi Susan.

There was no sign of any work starting while we were there until 16th September.
As you can see on the pictures, Meltemi looks just the same and the land between it and the Alianthos Beach Hotel is still as empty as ever.
Neither did we hear anything of plans to build although we did not make any specific enquiries.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the dinner as you can see from the pictures.
I've put you and Gary down for the Plakforms Meet 2004.
I'm also organising a safari.  Will you come?

Susan, I don't think raward (Rich and Wendi) have posted their views on the Artemis Studios yet but I know they were somewhat peeved.
I'd suggest you contact them before you book.

We stayed at the Alianthos Beach, in fact we've stayed there 7 times now, and believe me it was far from empty.
We are always looked after very well, the staff are really helpfull, always remember us, even as far as "you always have coffee not tea, right" at our first breakfast.  They remember which room we like and always make us feel very much at home.

As I understand it, plans are now drawn up for the hotel, which will be 5 star - and on 3 floors - the lowest being a typical basement level - so not too high then.

Meltemi will be closing at the end of this season - with a big party, no doubt - and building work will start shortly after that. No one seems to have a firm idea of dates yet - but I guess that they won't be open for next season!

As for the disruption this will cause in town - no idea - but 'm hoping to be out there early next season to check things out.

Any news always welcome!

Morning all

Having looked at your pictures John, I have a real longing to get back now, never mind next September!

Not sure about the safari, although it sounds like fun, I don't really like driving on Greek roads which is due to a nasty accident we had on the north of the Island a few years ago.  When we go somewhere now it tends to be by bus which does limit us I know.

I did email Rich about the Artemis studio's and he replied explaining that he ended up staying at the Apollo instead. So if anyone else has stayed there or knows anything about them please let me know. Rich did tell me about some other apartments which look nice so I may try them instead. I will chat to Adonis at Anso and see what he has to say.

Thanks for the Pictures John. Thinks have certainly changed since 1987. I can hardly recognise anything.  I downloaded some on my screensaver, keep up the good work. Cheers Hopper

Thanks Hopper.  I'm glad you enjoyed them.  If you'd like any of the originals for better quality give me a shout.

Hi folks.  The new hotel is not yet underconstruction.  Phillipos has decided to go to court to try and keep Meltemi open.  No news at the moment what is happening but we still don't have the club to go to on a Saturday night as they are not allowed to trade whilst it is going through the court.  Will keep you posted.

Plillipos has my support! Shall we start a petition to the court?!?!?!?
I've not been to Meltemi a lot in the last few years, but it's nice to know it's still there - it will always be part of Plakias to me.  I usually manage a couple of visits a year, although lately I've seen more people dancing in Ostraco!
