VIRGINS!
« on: August 21, 2003, 03:50:40 PM »
We are Plakias virgins!!!!
My fiance and I are going to Plakias for the very first time for two weeks. Arriving as well on Sept 2. I was wandering if there were any events or particular things that we shouldn't be missing whilst we are there.
I now gather that there are ATMs which is very convenient. I think Ill bring a hundred quid's worth of Euros and rely on the holes in the walls for the rest.
What is the visibility like in the sea if one were to go serious snorkeling?
I heard that buying fish dishes can be a potential rip off - can anyone clarify this for us?
We will be staying at Artemis Studios any one heard anything good about this place?

Lots of questions I know.
The place sounds great from what I have read.
We can't wait to get there to experience the sights, food and drink?
I bet there are some real characters out there as well!
Great web site!
See you there!

You'll have a great time Raward.
There are 3 ATMs now - but it has been known for them to run out of cash when it gets busy.
Yes - Julie's right about the sea - though it can get a bit choppy sometimes, and the snorkelling is not so good then.
Fish is sometimes expensive. If you do feel like a fish dish, try the Secret Nest, and ask what's good that night. Christos also has good fish.
Sorry - not stayed at Artemis, but I'm sure someone else will have.......

The event of the season looks like being the dinner get-together being organised by John Page (COMPAGE) at Medousa Taverna on Friday 9 September at 9pm.  It is an opportunity for all the Plakias Web Site users to meet face to face and have a general chin wag.  As Plakias Virgins you can't afford to miss it!  Look at the topic 'Crowded Plakias' and get your name on the list.

We always visit the Secret Nest at least once during our holidays to eat the fish there.  It's a small family-run concern at the rear of the village where they will take you to look at the fish and ask how you would like it cooked (with or without garlic for example).  Their prices are normally more modest than the bigger concerns around the harbour.

See you on the beach (and hopefully at Medousa on the 9th).

Regards

Allan and Fran

Best places for snorkeling are two small beaches east of damnoni [ Under water there´s a hole in the cliff between the two beaches you can dive through] and shinaria beach. Even when the sea at the plakias bay gets rough and the water is not so clear it´s still phantastic there.

Hi Raward

The Artemis Studios Look really nice and we are thinking of staying there next year. As no one seems to have stayed there before, would you be kind enough to post a review when you get back. It would be nice to have an opinion before we book.

Thanks
Susan

Can thoroughly recommend Shinaria as a snorkelling venue, as did this a couple of days. Lefgoiya is also worth a go (the one before Shinaria and after Damnoni).
Also well worth a snork is the beach by Taverna Gallini - Souda - go right out by the headland, there are some really good hidden coves round there - but watch out there is a big eel in one of them. The water is crystal clear and easy snorkelling but do invest in a pair of fins, I bought a new pair this year from the Forum Supermarket, only 17.50 Euros - bargain.
Enjoy, because we did.............

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.

I will request two more at Medusa on the 5th. ( I will put this on the crowded plakias page ).

Susan K - I will post our opinion of Artemis studio when we get back.
