Goodbye Plakias
« on: June 09, 2014, 07:03:47 AM »
This will be my last post. My wife and I took the decision to move away from Plakias with some regret. But Plakias has changed. Everything does of course and that change either suits you or it doesn't. For us now Plakias is too commercialised. There is too much focus on greed. Surprisingly we are now on the north side of the island just outside Kokkino Chorio. Much less commercialised than Plakias. Gentler in some way. Incredible views across Souda Bay with the White Mountains behind us. The naval base is just opposite so I watch the ships and submarines come and go. And the beaches here have beautiful soft sand. And an ice cream parlour has opened in Almyrida run by Italians who make their own ice cream on the premises. Ice cream to die for. Try the coconut and cream. Or the fresh strawberry. Or anything!
Plakias is now a tourist resort not much different to elsewhere. What it does it does well. But it is not the place of twenty years ago.

He even sent me a message!

to me
Goodbye Barny. Did you know that the reason a lot of men say no to a massage from a man is that they are worried they will get turned on and get an erection. But I'm sure that wasn't the reason you said no.

Could well bump into him again. We stay in Armenoi village near Kalives as an alternative to Plakias area.
Friendly with Giannis who owns the Kokkino Chorio Taverna.
Do not know how they will cope, not a naturist friendly part of the Island and mostly filled with Villas owned by Brits and a few other European nationalities out by Kokkino Chorio.
Scenery not as dramatic but very handy for Chania and the resorts nearby.
I am sure they will be Happy.
Confused about the 20 years ago reference, they only discovered Plakias in 2012.
Hope my name change not too confusing, there was a good reason to change to my surname.
Have a great Summer.

Of course my wife and I will be back in Plakias. We made good friends. But it would be no longer appropriate for me to post comments on the Plakias Forum. What I have found disheartening about people like you and Barney is how childish, cheap and smug your comments are.

May I request our forum administrator draw a line under this thread as it has become most unsavoury. Thanks Ploppy.
