Return to Plakias
« on: May 09, 2014, 05:19:01 PM »
We are returning to Plakias on 10th June from LBA for two weeks staying at the Dora.  We usually stay at KC but they were full when we tried to book.  Does anyone know if the Dora has Kettle and hairdryer? as there is no mention of either in blurb on Olympic or any other website.  Hairdryer is most important (so I'm told) ducking quickly!!!
Really looking forward to Plakias again, counting days now.  :) ;) ;D ;D

Kettle but no Hairdryer.
Upstairs at front has best views, the back at the side has the worst, as it looks directly at the part build next door, the next worst is ground floor to the right of the door as everyone leaving and entering can see you. To the left room 10? has two windows and is very light, the small balcony does face the concrete next door but we found it easy to ignore and liked the room last Year.
Good parking if you have a car in the grounds of the part build. Actually like the Dora because it is in a quiet area and views are not too bad.
Short cuts to KC via gap and quick wander past the pool next to the KC and over small wall. Turn left when you get to the little road (away from seafront direction) and there is a path that goes through the little church grounds and gets you into street for Minoiko http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g189413-d3541043-Reviews-Minoiko-Crete.html

We know nothing about the Dora but since last year the little shortcut over the wall by the Calma Studios has been blocked off. ( not by KC) but it is a shame as that was very useful.

Hope you all enjoy your holidays.

That is a pity, probably was a bit much going past the Calma pool all the time. We used the short cut June and July 2013. Should say my partner and Daughter used it.

Thanks for that.  We were aware of the shortcut to the KC as we used it last year when we found the Dora we also have used Minioko and the Kafenion regularly as we have found the food and atmosphere to be just so good.
Four weeks and counting!!!   ;) :)

We stayed at the Dora last October and it was fine. We were in the room that looks directly at the building site opposite. If you have the means to turn your head to the left you have a fantastic view of the hills. The rooms are perfectly placed and it's nice and quiet at night if you like to sit out on your balcony. No hair dryer, but why would you need one?

For those of you that are coming tomorrow Paradise is waiting for you.
We've been here a week lovely warm days but cool in the morning & evenings.
We are at KC so no doubt our paths will cross.
Safe journeys.

Just another question. Does anyone know where the Wi-Fi hotspots are? now we have gone all high tech, Wi-Fi access would be good.

I think that there will now be quite a few. Livicon certainly have wifi which they let you use (polite to have a drink or something but they rarely complain except in one instance I know of where someone when asked what they would like said they were only there for the wifi!!) I'm a regular there and once when I wanted a quick Internet access I did it leaning against their side wall - hidden I thought. Denis spotted me and with a big grin hauled me in, insisting I used a comfortable chair with no further obligation.

TonyH,

Wifi is widely available.  Based on last year's visit, in addition to Livicon, there is To Kyma, Costas Chryssoula bar, Argo, Minoiko, Lamon.... and no doubt more.  I don't think you will be stuck for internet access.

When I was in Plakias last October I would say every taverna had internet access.
If I wanted a quick look I'd just go and stand outside the Alianthos Beach Hotel as I'd got their access code on day 1. I thing it was "hotel".
