Plakias Late May
« on: January 10, 2013, 10:49:02 AM »
I’m thinking of visiting Plakias in late May from the 21st to the 28th and wondered what it’s like at this time of year? I’m hoping to do a combination of walking and relaxation.

My main questions are

a) Will there still be flowers around at this time?

b) How warm is it likely to be?

c) Will all the tavernas/ shops be open?

Thanks!

Hello,

We have been to Plakias and the South of Crete a few times at the end of May.  It is a very good period.
1) Most of the flowers will still be blooming.
2) It is going to be more than 30 degrees during the daytime.  You might need a sweater at night and maybe a raincoat for a couple of hours.
3) All the tavernas and shops are open at this time of the year.
In fact, this is the period of the year that we prefer.  It is not too hot and the days are long and sunny.
Have fun,

Hugo

I agree with all of this but would add that Plakias is likely to be pretty quiet still at this time (unlike autumn).

Thanks for the replies -very helpful. Sounds ideal and the fact it would be quiet is if anything a bonus for me!
