Cheap Flights
« on: July 29, 2003, 12:00:33 AM »
Hi
We live in Leicester (yes I know  - somebody has to) and after a fab holiday in Plakias (June / July this year) we don't want to wait until 2004 before repeating it.
We hope to go for 7 days in early October (hopefully the weather will still be OK then - wont it?) and whilst appartments are available we want to know if there is any cheap flights available (East Midlands, Luton, Manchester or any London airport)
Anything considered including Athens providing we can get a connecting flight to Crete.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi there,

Glad you had a great time and are already planning to go back.
As to the flights try checking out Heraklion form Midlands
You can expect to pay between £150 and £200 at a guess.
London airport flights here.

Weather should be great in early Oct.Only Plakias does have its own rules!Try flightline.co.uk for your flights you should pick up something decent around now.Not alway,s a good idea using schedule as the onward flight from Athens can be dear.Ferry option would take up too much of your time.Good luck with your search.

We have booked with Flightline for the last 2 years and are using them again this year, and had no probs at all. Their prices have been very reasonable - we paid £235 for the 4 of us this year, which was only marginally more than last. We always tend to book up really early as we've found that the price is usually at its best the earlier you book, and also they fly from Stansted which is on our doorstep.
Give them a try - http://www.flightline.co.uk - good luck and enjoy.

Cheers

The last two years we have booked with Britannia Direct as we found these offered the cheapest prices.  I do agree though that the earlier you book the more liklihood of cheaper flights.  We booked in January for September, but it's worth checking out.

Pritch, do you mean you found flights for £235.00 each for 4 people or was it £235 for all of you?

Unless you have the nerves to make yourself wait for the very last minute deals, the cheapest company I have found so far is with Cheapestflights.co.uk.  We have just booked 2 tickets for 9 September (Gatwick to Heraklion) for £145 each.
We used the same company for a week's car hire (£137) and insurance (£26.00).

I have used them before for trips to Lesbos and to Costa Blanca with no problems, so I am quite happy to recommend them.

The only thing you have to make sure of is to register yourself on their website.  That way you qualify for the member rates.  They do not bombard you with information, nor do they seem to pass your details on to other companies, which can often be a nuisance.  (My God, I must stop this - I am beginning to sound like an advert for them!)

Anyway, however you get there, let's all have a great time.
