Airport transfers/Bus
« on: December 02, 2011, 04:49:03 PM »
There's an old forum topic thats well outdated. So - Anyone out there (from recent experience) know the cost of a taxi from Heraklion to Plakias as a bus at midnight is not an option (Flight arrives at 21:55) or know of any alternatives - realistic or witty if you must. I don't fancy sleeping overnight at the aiport awaiting the first bus of the day. Daz

Cheers and thanks - perhaps a week later when transfers are part of the package holiday unless there are other alternatives- I'll keep searching.

Another option is to pick up a hire car at the airport. We did this year, at a cost of about 280 euros - so we had the use of a car for two weeks for only 80 euros (+petrol) if you deduct the cost of a taxi each way.
By the way - the cost of the journey is fixed by the government. There used to be a board displaying proces at Heraklion Airport, but I'm not sure if it's still there. Usually the taxi drivers stand in front of it to cover it up. It is always wise to agree the cost of a trip with the driver before you get in the cab.

I agree with the bit about fixing the price beforehand. Last year a friend wanted to go to Selia in a cab (daytime) and was quoted €20. Nor surprisingly she left him to read his paper on the seafront.

This year I heard a lady quoted much less than half this to go the much longer journey to Asomatos.

Point well made Mike.

It seems to me that it would be a good idea to maintain a list of the usual fares from/to Plakias and other regular destinations. We know it's €100 for the airport. What's the damage for trips to Selia, Mirthios, Prevelli, Reythimno etc.?

I will add a section on the Frequently Asked Questions page on the new site at http://www.ostraco.co.uk/faqs%20play.html, which I'm hoping will be up and running well before the next holiday season.

I would also like to add in more information about Taxis - phone numbers, offices etc. I've not used them for a few years as we've had a car available.

This is a good one. He helped us out last in July during the taxi strike.

Nice one Barny!  I'll build in a link.

I knew there was a taxi office in town, but didn't realise Zach was running it. You're right, he's a great guy, and reliable.

Another thumbs up for Zach, you couldn't ask for a nicer chap. So if you decide a taxi transfer is for you then he comes highly reccomended.
Both of our return journeys the last couple of years booked through Zach have been with a pleasant young fella whose name escapses me.

I believe his name was Andrea and he lives in Damnoni.
He is Zach's employee and we had a lot of fun from the airport to Plakias.

We always seem to arrive around midnight, so taxi to the Mirabello Hotel 20,theotokopoulou Street, Heraklion. It's more of a hostel than a hotel but we have found it adequate for an overnight stay. It also has air conditioning and being near local eateries we are able to grab our first Cretan meal and mythos.

Hi All, Just registered and thought I might chip in my 2.5p worth. We're in Plakias in June 2012 for 2 weeks and we've hired a car from Alianthos in Plakias for 3 day at the beginning of the holiday, picking up at Heraklion airport and dropping off in Plakias, and three days at the end picking up in Plakias and dropping off at the airport for 190euro. Plan is to crash on the beach (far end) for the rest of the holiday!
Really looking forward to the hols. We visited about 25 years ago and have been meaning to return, but France, Menorca, Peru (memorably) and several other places got in the way.
