News from the front
« on: November 30, 2010, 04:56:08 PM »
At the risk of being lynched - I understand that there may  have been a flake or two of snow back in the UK.
We are now just into our 9th (and unfortunately last) week here in Plakias.
We've been out walking and swimming on all but about half a dozen days. Yesterday we went up Timeos Stavros (OK we started 1/2 way up - at the first church) then back to Plakias for a dip - and today we walked to Amoudaki and had a swim there.
Its very strange walking and swimming and wearing T shirt and shorts at the end on November - and it's the fist time we'e spent a prolonged period here. Also except for a few odd bods like us there are only the locals and permanent ex-pats here so the atmosphere is very different to that which we normally experience.
Sadly, reality will hit home next week when having left London after 45 years we have our first Winter in our new place on the Sussex Downs.

Oh dear - does that mean we have to stay here a bit longer?

I suggest you get yourself comfy Paleo and stay put. Gatwick is closed as well now and the majority of roads around Crawley, Haywards Heath, East Grinstead etc. are impassable. Find yourself a bar, lift a glass of Mythos and say thanks george...

I think we have had nearly a centimetre this week!
Can I go to Plakias then?

If you can find an airport that's open Barny, I'll come with you. Gatwick and most of the London City airports are shut.

Barny, our airport is open. But at the moment there are no non-stop-flights from Leipzig to Heraklion.

BTW: In the meantime we have 30 centimetre snow with around minus 10 degrees.
Do you want to change the places?

Barny? Are you sure? Do you would like the snow and the coldness?
Nice people... everybody should make its own experiences.
Beer... sorry, but I do not like beer. Otherwise you could taste a lot of sorts. Do you like bright or dark beer?
Food... the German cuisine is very different to the English one.

Kerstin
... and I am sorry, if there are any mistakes.

At least your country doesn't close down when it has a bit of snow Kerstin, and it is closer to Plakias than we are, WITH flights!!!

Many thanks for your compliments.

Yes, we are closer to Crete.
With a non-stop-flight it takes us 2 hours and 30 minutes, but we should not talk about the prices.
Our flights are much more expensive as your flights.

At the moment we have minus 11 degrees and the snow is everywhere.
Sometimes driving is very difficult but we must live therewith.
