Our booking has been cancelled - now what?
« on: August 06, 2008, 11:30:00 AM »
Hi guys,

I sincerely hope one of you Plakias experts has some advice for us.
We're first timers (actually this is/was going to be our first bigger holiday in 14 years) and after some googling chose Plakias for our holidays. We booked online last week and only today the company has come back to us telling us that there was only a double room available but not the single room (resp. double room to use as single) for our 17-year-old son. It looks like we have to cancel the holiday altogether as we were supposed to fly out in 12 days.

My question is: can we risk going the three of us with a booking for 2 and trying to get a room (private?) closeby? We were/are booked in the Myrtis & Porto Plakias (1 room was in the former and 1 room in the latter, a lot more expensive).

Can someone help us with an address or give us some advice as to what to do to enable us to spend the planned fortnight in Plakias? (We actually thought  Plakias is a quiet area and are stunned that it's fully booked - we'd tried for an apartment first.)

Thanks,
megs

PS: We could not book any earlier as it wasn't sure till last week that the spouse could get time off same time as me.

Hi Guys welcome.

I get the impression that you booked with Olympic, not much choice really, as they are the only UK tour company in Plakias.

There are plenty of rooms around, and you will find one. Have a look at the 'Article System' / 'Accommadation' top of page, or if there isn't anything in there that you fancy get back to us, and we can let you have a LOT of contact numbers and email addresses that you can try!!

Plakias is quiet and small and because the UK only have one representative company there, it gets booked up early... very early.

Wish you luck and hope you get there ok, and that you enjoy it... you will!!

Really sorry to hear abour your accommodation, that's not great news. As time is short, might I suggest you contact Anso travel in the village http://www.ansovillas.com/anso-villas-in-crete.html we used them the first few years we went to Plakias and they should be able to find you alternative accommodation. Send them an email with your requirements and they should respond quite quickly or you could give them a call.

No problem, you can go to Plakias and you will find anyway a room. I know Lyvicon hotel owners, they have also Morpheas and Lysvos. You can ask a room to them in Lyvicon or in the market under Morpheas (they are near the bus station) and they will find what you need.

Well thank you  for the positive feedback and trying help, all. I feel better already.  However, and I'm so sorry about this, I'd totally forgotten to take the fact into account that there aren't anymore "just flights" to Crete from here (we're in Munich!), and that's why we're pretty stuck with a package tour. :/

The spouse put up a stink, and now the travel agent has contacted the hotel(s) to see what can be done other than cancel the trip. We "just" have to wait a couple more days to get confirmation either way. *fingers crossed*.  If it works out after all, I hope the Myrtis is going to be an alright hotel? Actually, it seems that all the hotels in the area are not bad at all (from what the reviews pages say). We're all fussy about clean rooms ...  There appear to be a ton of Dutch fans of Plakias - or  they're just feedback-crazy.

I just don't want to believe that after we've literally already visited the Plakias area online, we might not be going.  I'll keep you informed and thanks again for your help, George, Susan, Xamas.
