I think there are 'No Camping' signs along the road that follows the beach to the 'Far End' but I've seen one or two camper vans there overnight when we visit in September.

We saw a few under the trees at amoudi-beach sometimes... We are thinking this trip to Crete with our camping-mobile since years and years, but never made it further than Crés [Croatia] on four wheels and Kerkyra [with the motorbike]
Where do you start? Will you take the ferry from Italy? We would be interested to hear more about your trip when you return...

Good luck!

Shinaria

thank you for your reply Graham & Karen...we too have seen the motor homes along the front but as they are prob building the new complex there by now we thought that the developers would take a dim view of a dirty great motorhome blocking their view!

hi Shinaria we intend visiting friends on the Pelponese Peninsula so we kinda looking for a ferry to Crete from Kalamata...apparently there is a service but not daily in fact might not even be weekly but it does run sometime. As we have ouR dog with us we not sure about the route through the Balkans so Italy has to be our direction.(to avoid quarantine) Why dont you join us lol

According to a Dutch site only 2 good campings for campers:

Good experiences in 2003 with camping "No Problem" near Agia Galini (with excellent restaurant) and  camping Mithimna near Drapanias (very large places).

It is generally accepted to stay overnight on a parking place in a village

For a  4 weeks route  Link:  http://www.griekenlandmetdecamper.nl/kreta.html

Click on the camper parking sign for photo's, detailed map and GPS coordinates.
Click on photo's / card for enlargement.

According to my contact in Kalamata, the ferry service ceased operation last year - due to the age and condition of the boat ... or captain ... or both!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You should look at:

http://www.magbaztravels.com/

Especially search for Crete, but there is tons of info about Greece, Italy ferries etc.

Have fun
