First visit to Plakias
« on: August 16, 2007, 12:50:25 PM »
Hi  We are coming to Plakias for the first time on 28 Aug for two weeks.  We are staying in one of the apartments (not the studios) in Santa Maria. Please can you give me any info on these i.e are they at the front or the back of the building. How far are they from everything. Are they nice!!!

We also want to hire a car - who do you recommend please

Thanks

Hiya,

Welcome to the forum!

There has been some discussion about Santa Maria, you can use the search top right or click on this link.
Yes it looks like front vs back is good to know, maybe somone else will know where the apartments are located.

It is a little way out of town, you can see where it is
on this map.
But its less than a 10 minute walk to the centre.

Cheers,

Paul

If hiring the car for the whole two weeks and picking up from the airport, the cheapest quote I got was from Just Rent a Car www.justrentals.gr. If you want a car from and to the airport but not for the whole time, Anso travel will quote you for 3 days + 3 days, picking up from the airport when you arrive returning it to their Plakias office after 3 days, then the reverse at the end of your holiday. If you are hiring in resort for a few days, it's probably best to get quotes after you arrive - we've not had any problems with Anso, Moto Plakias or Alianthos and have just used whichever one gives the best deal at the time.

I would hazard a guess that the apartments are at the front of the building, the one I stayed in was.

Car hire is trial and error, everyone has their preference, but I usually use the Alianthos if I book anywhere in town. (Big hotel on the corner of the town, you can't miss it).

I was replying while you guys hit the 'add reply' button.

I'm picking mine up at the airport this year and like you, used 'JUST'. I've got a Jimny for three weeks (22 Days) for 700 euros all in.

We have hired a car from Monza (next door to the Lamon), for the last two years. On each occasion it was only booked on arrival in Plakias, but we have managed to get a good deal both times, which considering we were still in August, was a pleasant suprise.

Our Toyota Aygo (cheapest car) was 319 Euro for 2 weeks. Zorbas quoted be a similar price but I wasn't totally happy with the insurance. Others were closer to 350 Euro.

Hi Sunshinegirl

Just carry on reading the message board, hit the titles on the left ie 'Plakias', 'Where to go' etc they will open up and give you all the info you want to know.

Hope you enjoy your first trip. I get the impression your with Olympic as your staying at the Santa Maria, so you'll be arriving at Heraklion. I'll be at Chania on the 28th, picking up Pete and Dawn and daughter, but we'll be back in town in the evening, probably enjoying an odd G&T or three in the Levicon, come and say hello!

I'll be the one with the suntan as I will have already been there a week.

As George says feel free to say hello. You have the advantage over us as you know what we look like, putting a picture on the site certainly helps.

See you soon (12 days and counting)
