Can anybody tell us more about Stella pensions please

I stayed there a couple of years ago when I had to book at the last minute and found it pleasant, although I prefer self catering.

We have stayed at Stella Pension for the last 4 years or so - going back again in early October. We consider it to be more than excellent. Very small and exceptionally clean - the daily cleaning is fastidious beyond belief. Run by the owners who speak very little English, who are very helpful and friendly but will stand no nonsense (we appreciate that). It is set nicely back from main center of Plakias but only 2 minutes walk to the Beach, Tavernas etc. Very quiet location. Try to book front of hotel - quieter (a not too busy road runs past the back). We love Plakias but Stella is one of the reasons we keep returning. No pool nor any facilities outside, but that for us is an advantage.

Would this be a suitable place for an older couple (my wife's parents) who need somewhere quiet and on the ground floor - easy to walk, and possible to use an electric scooter/wheelchair? I know they would like a sea view, but you can't have everything!

If you can arrange for a ground floor room then yes - Stella Pension very suitable for electric scooter, disabled person etc. The small breakfast room, ground floor rooms and access to the outside are all on one level - NO steps (except perhaps 1 shallow step down from patio - can't remember. Rooms at ground floor front do not have sea view due to vegetaion etc but they are very quiet. On balance I would recommend highly for your needs. The main problem is in getting 1st Choice to alert their local rep that you MUST have a ground floor room etc. The upper floor rooms have stair access only (no lifts).

If you see my other recent post you will note that the early First Choice 2004 brochure does not include Plakias and hence Stella Pension in their brochure.

Thanks for information on Stella pensions. I think the sea view may be the deciding factor, but appreciate the comments.

No it doesn't have air conditioning

Sorry to have to correct you John but Stella does have air conditioning -I was there from 19 Aug to 2 Sept this year .It is an extra cost - 30 Euros a week I think -and I did notbother but some other people there did

Thanks for info - that is something new. I'm setting off there for the 6th time on Tuesday - will have a poke around. I suspect they must be offering portable units - unless they have fixed them to rooms during last winter

Just returned - Stella does now have proper air conditioning fitted to each room - 30 euros per week if required. My previous powers of observaton not at fault - it was newly installed for 2003.
