That's one thing that people don't seem to realise, most published temperatures are recorded in the shade.
One can always add at least 10-15 degrees to that figure for temperatures 'in the sun'.

george g...

Published temperatures are the temperature of the air; official ones are measured in a Stevenson Screen but they must be in the shade obviously. Temperatures in the sun are meaningless as all it is is the temperature the direct sun has heated the thermometer to, not the air temperture. We all know how hot the beach at the far end gets in high summer- too hot to walk on.

I checked official temperature records and the record for Crete seems to 44.4°C and the highest in Greece was 48°C. Even Kuwait only managed 51.5°C! See http://www.meteorologyclimate.com/extreme-...ure-records.htm.

So, over 40°C it could have been but not 52°C. Whatever it was, too hot for my liking but not for George.

The way it's going out there, the sea temperatures are going to be like a warm bath in around 5 weeks time

Oh yes it certainly will be George, the water was the warmest I've ever known it in June/July, bet you can't wait...

Whatever the air temperature was it was bloody hot, the sand was too hot walk on even at 9am, you couldn't touch any of the metal on the sunbeds without getting severe burns & even putting your sunglasses or flip flops back on was a problem if they had been in the sun.

One week until a warm bath and cold beers!!!
Is there any wind at the moment?

Lucky you, We only had 2 days of strong winds once the temperature cooled down & it was perfect when we left but that was a week ago now.

Have a great time

Bad news .... we're back!

Doubly bad ... I'm here, posting again!!!

The Wind - last week was noticeably windy - it seemed like constant Beaufort scale 7, up to 9, although there were several gusts of 11 (severe storm) ..... plastic chairs bouncing around the balcony and washing ripped off the airer and last seen heading off to Lybia   {TVFIC}

The Resort - absolutely the best - we are converts.

The Hospitality - (see previous comment).   .... the hospitality as experienced on the north coast just cannot compare.

For those with the patience, I'll try to write a few "articles" - just don't hold your breath
