I would second what Harribobs says. A large number of sensible (though I say so myself !!) and like minded people go September / early October and feeling lonely would be very difficult indeed.

Jann,  feeling alone in Plakias is just not possible.  I spent last winter there, staying in Myrthios, but visiting Plakias on most days where there were always friendly faces and conversation.   It is also a very spiritual place so ideal for uplifting nostalgia and having a special time in the present day.  Thinking of you at this time, and hoping you will make that trip to Plakias which I feel sure will be a magical elixir.

Thank you Chris and Jann for your encouragement to me to write about my winter in Myrthios/Plakias.  Not sure of the protocol here, but think I will start another thread and perhaps there may be some others out there who also have spent a few days, weeks or longer out there in the winter months - surely I can`t be the only one?

Hello Jann,

Firstly, I would like to add my best wishes to those already expressed following your recent loss.

I think if you undertake a holiday on your own in 2008 you should enjoy it. Increasing numbers of women now travel singly and Plakias is very safe. It does seem that it is much busier late in the season than earlier (i.e. late Sept/Oct versus May). I don't know why, as this isn't typical of Greece.

I would also say that you can be as private or sociable there as you choose. If you wish the latter then you can make contact via the forum before you go or just turn up at the usual haunts.

Lastly, Olympic makes it easy to travel on your own and early and late the single supplements are minimal. I know this as I have booked for 2008. Kosmar, unfortunately, only take bookings from singles in the last few weeks, when they are selling off unsold holidays, and Plakias doesn't often feature. If you book independently you will have to bear the whole of the cost of the accommodation yourself so it may not be economic, although the choice of accommodation will be much wider.

If you decide to go, all the best and I hope you enjoy it.

Mike

Thank you Mike, Olympic sounds like the best option from what you say, and thanks for giving me the benefit of your experience - I hope I'll manage to sort something out.
