Crete quake

An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck north of Hania, Crete, early yesterday (06-03-07). It did not cause any damage or injuries.

The earth didn't move for us!!!  Totally unaware, certainly no damage down here.  I'm surprised this even got in the papers cos quakes this size quite often happen off the south coast!!

I sometimes look at the Kathimerini page in Greek, as I'm learning the language. I quite often see reports of tremors somewhere in the Aegean sea that don't make it into the news elsewhere.

indeed ther was another this weekend in Kefalonia

A series of aftershocks struck the Ionian island of Cephalonia yesterday following Sunday’s 5.9-magnitude quake that caused widespread damage to several roads and about 10 buildings, including the island’s archaeological museum. Limited damage was also reported on the nearby island of Ithaca.

No one was hurt in the tremor. Government engineers were yesterday sent to Cephalonia to inspect the damage to schools, homes and roads. The quake shook the island’s archaeological museum enough to topple several exhibits there.

Residents of Cephalonia and Ithaca were alarmed yesterday by a series of aftershocks that were as strong as 5.1 on the Richter scale, but experts stressed that the tremors were no cause for concern and were to be expected in the area, which is prone to quakes.
