Why so expensive in September?
« on: June 28, 2006, 05:55:59 PM »
We spent a wonderful 2 weeks in Plakias in June 2005, and were considering a return visit (rare for us) in September 2006. We have been suprised (should that be horrified) by the price Olympic and Kosmar want for 1 week on 26th. Sept. to the Kostas Chrysoulla,  £700 for 2! We only paid slightly more than that for 2 weeks in June, both here and in Lefkada (Lefkas). What is the problem? Is it anything to do with ALL the forum members going out at the same time, (will there be room at the Livicon/Ostracos etc.,)(Will the Mythos supply be sufficient?) Why is it so expensive? We would like to meet up again with Babbis and his Dad from the Sirocco, and watch the sun go down over Souda Bay as we eat (and drink) our meal.
Please help an impoverished (old) couple

One of the reasons prices are still high in September is because it is not considered low season. July/August are high season, June/Sept Mid season and May/october low season.

When we first went to Plakias in September about 10 years ago it was definitely off season and very quiet. Last year our host (Marcos of Stella Pension) commented that late September was the busiest time of that whole year. Perhaps the tour companies have latched on to that. We also noticed a large influx from Czechslovakia. We could not stand the heat from mid June to late August and I think that applies to many people who now realise that Late September offers a very pleasant climate.

Re Livicon and Medousa - then yes please form an orderly queue and give absolute preference to members of the Skilos club     If you are indeed an "old couple" then membership of the Saga Louts applies  :'(  but skilos club members have absolute preference

It's not just the cost of the package. We were quoted £56 for a Gatwick car park (2 weeks) for the middle 2 weeks of May but the same outfit has quoted £101 for the time you mention in September/October. I consider both to be low season.

In fact, if you holiday in Greece in the first 2 weeks of October many things are closing down. I don't know about Plakias at that time as I have only ever been in Spring.

Good luck.

i think you've got to watch out for school holidays - there are september and october holidays in the schools...and they have got really strict about children been taken out of school just for a holiday and the holiday companies know that - so basically they just cash in on it because they know its the times the families will be looking to go away if they are to avoid high season prices

Just a quick addition to my topic - of note to anyone not yet booked for September 26th. 2006 at the Kostas Chrysoulla, Olympic web site has now DROPPED their prices!!!! 1 week self catering, flying from Gatwick on the 09.00 Monarch flight, for 2 people to the Kostas Chrysoulla appts. is now £450! (£225 each, all taxes and sircharges included).
Should be a busy week! Hope they got enough Mythos in Plakias to satisfy the thirsty throng.

I can think of few more frustrating things than having to leave Plakias after only ONE week. We paid little more than this for two weeks in May.

I booked only two weeks ago - and am going for two weeks next tuesday , staying at Costas Chryssoulas . With single room supplement , I paid - £340 . for as 2 weeks holiday mostly ion august , that seems pretty good to me . the Olympic rep I dealt with said that they ' owned ' the accomodation and sub let siome rooms to Kosmar so could always undercut Kosmar and had more rooms to let  might have been just travel agent patter but seemed credible
