george, whats that about the beach bar - have they really knocked it down  .  what was the problem?????
[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=4554\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]
Hi Sherylhume1
This is the beach bar in the sand dunes, at the far end, evidently the guy who built it didn't have planning permission, so the local council came along and knocked it all down. I heard it cost him 5000 euros to build it, and probably a few more in fines.
All, or most of the timber is scattered over the back of the beach, and a lot of people found it handy to build wind breaks.
I don't think it would have looked right there anyway, the sand dunes are the sand dunes and they should stay that way.

i think i've got the wrong beach bar.  i thought you meant manolis's beach bar past the meltemi - never realised there were two
[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=4567\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

No, Manolis is still up and running. The one they knocked down wasn't there very long so it's possible not a lot of people even saw it. I think there are some photos of it on the message board somewhere.

You mean taverna Manousos, just behind the Alianthos? Run by the bloke who looks like and acts like Manuel from fawlty towers!
I used to go there a lot in the past years but it does not seem as good as it was this year.

Spot on Barny!
Sorry if I confused anyone, we need a dictionary on the site so we can get all these names and places spelt right!

Manousses is right next to the Medusa. It looks interesting and we nearly ate there once but the veggie selection was not up to scratch (so I was told).

To say "one exstream to anouther" does not go far enough,
I'm talking about Manousses and Medousa.
At Madousa the food for me is the BEST IN PLALIAS but next door at Manousses is the worst in Plakias, I've only been there once and that was enough, the food was terrible  , cold and tough chicken, the service was even worse, a wait of over an hour with only 2 other couples in there, staff were discurtious and scruffy, NEVER AGAIN

Totally agree J & Z, I had a couple of meals in Medousa and they were excellent as were the atmosphere and the staff.

So how come Manousses is still going and the Secret Nest isn't? Beats me!
Does anyone know why it closed?

Where's Plalias, J & Z?

that's a shame, this kind of "service" is something I've always found to be very rare in Crete though not uncommon in other Greek islands.

Crete maybe officially a Greek Island but if you ask any Islander they will probably say they are Cretans not Greeks.
Like you I've been to numerous other islands and yes I agree, there is a difference. Crete is a one off... that's why I'm stuck on the place!

3. Transfer was dreadful as expected, just over three and a half hours. I will complain and claim compensation, even if it is only Morven’s personal telephone number, she was an absolute gem, cute what, I''ll say, and she got upset when I told her I was going to complain. Sorry Morven!
Glad you enjoyed it George. Agree about Morven.

Compensation re. the long transfer? You must be joking, but good luck anyway. If you pay a budget price, you get a budget transfer. But safer than a taxi ride by a maniac Greek driver.
