getting married.......
« on: August 31, 2004, 11:50:22 AM »
Talking to the other half last night, we're still undecided on where to get married. Now we have toyed with the idea of a traditional wedding here in the uk or eloping to greece for a quiet ceremony. Both I would like to do ( but I can't have my wedding cake and eat it..) then the idea came to me... would we be able to get hitched   in plakias?  Now that would be the icing on the cake  ! With Plakias being the place where we first met  , I think it would be so romantic but I don't know if this is possible- so if anyone has any knowledge on the subject or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated  cheers!!

Hi,

There was a short discussion on this very subject some time ago, you can read it [a href=\"http://forums.plakias.co.uk/index.php?PHPSESSID=1e61b299ac96ee81998efdc8e387018b&showtopic=169&hl=]here.[/url]

I think it is a lovely idea to get married in Plakias especially as you met each other there. What Mrs Ploppy and I did was to have a Registry Office job here in the UK for those people who couldn't travel and then had a church ceremony in Italy. This worked out very well.

I'm sure if you are determined enough anything is possible. Good luck

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Fraoula,

I don't know whether anyone is organising marriages for tourists in Plakias now but they weren't in 1997 so we got married in Agia Gallini, about 45 minutes drive East of Plakias.  Here is a link to some information I posted about it.

If you want to marry in Plakias it must be possible, especially as you speak Greek.  Perhaps Ali & Dave (the Brits who run the Agora mini-market almost opposite Anso Travel) can put you in touch with the local Mayor?

I don't know what the local costs would be or how much notice is required by the local registrar but I can tell you that you'll need to get your birth certificates translated into Greek through the embassy in London.  If I remember correctly that took several weeks and cost about £40 each but that was 7 years ago.

Thanks you guys for the info  !

I know you can get a package wedding to Aghia galini
which is a lovely resort but we want to do something extra special -hey don't get me wrong Aghia galini is a lovely place to get married I attended a friends wedding there years ago - the thought in my mind is that we met in Plakias, my darling proposed to me on the harbour in plakias as we watched our first sunrise together ( please don't barrff   guys i know it's mushy)
and to make our vows to eachother there, it's just more than words can say. But if not?..well it's not the end of the world ..we'll spend our honeymoon in Plak!!
what I'll do though is get in contact with Anso again and see if they can organise/give some contacts, it's worth a try!! Thanks again!!

Furthur to my recent investigations, I am still waiting to hear from anso (I hope they received the e-mail?). Then today I e-mailed margaret in agia galini ( thanks by the way compage,Looking at the website this is beginning to look like our best bet!) Also had a refresh at work on package weddings which is proving to be costly
but probably not as much as you'd pay in the U.K  .  Does anyone know the average cost of a quiet wedding in the U.k?( I'm asking!)
Found this story on the web (apparantly true) If you take a look http://tripsource.com/stories/Dave/Greece/Greece01.htm you'll find the story starts off in athens and eventually the happy couple end up getting married in Plakias?!  I (as you might have guessed ) was very envious. The photos are lovely- that should be us :'( boo hoo
