What's new?
« on: September 20, 2004, 10:17:31 AM »
Welcome back to all septemberies who have arrived home this week!!
Apart  from the new holiday home development planned, which I think most of us are hoping  doesn't develope much furthur, is there any other goss you can tell
us?   ( anything please?! even if its about the Geese)!??

Ho have you read the write up Kosmar have given  Plakias ? Here's a few of my
    favourite lines from the brochure-

'Falling in love again, we never thought wecould!...But we did!'
' ...we couldn't help but be seduced!'
'..Previous visitors to Plakias are incredibly protective of ''their'' Place and many
view it as thier second home. Local characters include Lefteris the doughnut
man! Who legend has it has the freshest, tastiest doughnuts in Crete!
The locals welcome their foriegn visitors with open arms.'
' When the Gods looked down from mount Olympus, they certainley poured
blessings down on this part of the island...'

Too right it's mine.... sorry, ours
 Definatly seduced  !
And a beautiful place

 ......I WANNA DOUGHNUT.... :'(

1.  This year there has been even more wind than normal.

2.  There are currently 10 geese, 5 are all white and 5 have grey bits.  I think the latter are the younger ones.

3.  Leftheris has added a new call to his usual 'Extra vitamina', 'Greek Viagra', etc.  It is 'A doughnut a day keeps Freddie away'.  Only far-enders will understand this one.

4.  Trade was down last year and even further down this year, except for September.

5.  A new road is being built Westwards from Souda Bay, about 30 metres above sea level.  Blasting was taking place almost every day in early September.

Cheers Comp!
The Weather's been a bit  blustery here though too, don't you think?
Nice to hear the Geese are still breeding
So where's this road heading? Is it for a new hotel   or is it to somewhere like  Rodakino beach ? Once tried to drive to Rodakino by moped  , only got as far as Selia though. Took the road up to mirthios, carried on through and down to the start of the gorge and then up towards Selia and I mean UP. If you've ever driven this way on a moped (or are thinking to, DON'T  )  then you'll know where I'm coming from  . Stopped in Selia to gather my thoughts    and decided it safer to just stay in Plakias

.....now where is that doughnut  .......

Yes Leftheris was on his usual good form although I didn't see him too often and he doesn't do the apricot doughnuts anymore

Freddie is the sun-bed man at the far end (hey I know this and I'm one of the Textiles   )

Pavlos in Kyma said he was having a good season although he said Plakias in general wasn't.

= Compage, 20 September, 11.43pm.
Trade was down last year and even further down this year, except for September.

John's (Compage) news, this aspect anyway, is disappointing for the locals trying to earn a living. First Choice pulling out could accelerate this trend. Makes one wonder why the resort needs a big new development, as has been reported recently.

For some reason that I can't fathom, Greece doesn't seem to be as popular as it once was.

We walked the length of the new road last week. The improvement (?) ends at the first building (apartment block) at the East of Rodakina. We walked on to the Taverna in Rodakina and then walked back to Plakias (or Souda where we had parked a car)

I can't see it being continued to bypass the bad road between upper and lower Rodakina and I suspect it is just for local (farmer ?) use. I heard someone say that farmers had clubbed together to make the improvement.

Dotty and her Husband also walked on this track to Rodakina and found some very interesting means of transport back home. :'(

I promised not to give details of this on the forum
