Anyone else installed the new Service pack for XP yet?
I did it tonight, as I was having a few concerns about security.

Since then, I can't access parts of the Welcome to Plakias site properly (the Board is OK) - and I also am having a few problems with other sites I used to use frequently.

Anyone else having trouble?

Hi John.  You will probably find that your problems are related to the pop-up blocker that SP2 introduced in Internet Explorer.

Have a look at this.

I installed SP2 a couple of weeks ago and have had no problems to report of. The pop-up blocker may cause confusion but it is similar to Googles offering which I have been using up until now.
Of course if you believe the press XP SP2 already has holes, will destroy your computer and is single handedly responsible for the falling fertility rates in lesser spotted egrets... or something

On a related note, if any of you don't fancy the hefty download of XP SP2 then I would be happy to burn it on to a CD and post it to you.

Cheers,
Paul

Paul,

Can you bring a CD to Plakias with you?  We are at Annas between 2nd and 16th Sept which is where you are staying I believe.

Regards,

Allan

I have a fast connection at work and wanted to download SP2 as a file so that it is transportable. Then I could apply it to my home PC. It seems that you can only download and install it through Windows Update - is that true or is there somewhere else I should be looking.

Well - XP2 does seem to be making it's pesence felt!

Thanks John - you were in the right areaa with the popup blocker. After reading your link, I had a play around. I was using pop swatter - and of course, the XP2 one was enabled on download. They're both off now - and I'm doing fine!

Hi Graham,

The full download has been available for a while on this [a href=\"http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en]Microsoft page.[/url]

The one through Windows Update is dynamic and will vary in size dependant on which updates you have already installed.

Regards,
Paul

Urgh!  :'(  I see the full download is too big for my memory stick. Any chance of bringing another CD with you to Plakias Paul? A blank CD and a beer in exchange if you can?

Thanks - Graham

Can't contribute anything to this topic as I don't undestand much of it.

Just a thought, for those not in Plakias at any one time (i.e. most of us) wouldn't a webcam be great? Imagine looking at it on Christmas Day or any other day in winter! Just pie in the sky I guess though.
