I witnessed a major thunderstorm over gavdos last may 2003.
it was my last evening in Souda before retuning to Canada.
I was for many reasons , to visit the place and people
who my brother loved and vice verca.
he died on route from plakias to iraklion in 2000,
in a freak taxi crash.
was there for thr trial of all concerned last may 2003.
Zak who was a good friend of my brother ,
was the taxi driver, after the trial he drove me from iraklion to souda mar hotel.
we are very connected now and I look fwd to seeing Zak and his lovely
little boy Nikolai ,when I arrive in late june.
thankfully the judgr ruled 100percent guilt to the truck involved,
so I scattered my parents ashes on stormy souda that night.
they both passed after Toms tragedy.
so now they are together in souda = deep water.
had a few rakis with my brothers close friend Stellios Kaoudis
has we sat in his garden on the hillside just above gallini tavern.
thats what I love about KRITI
the people are loyal and hardy,
are very straight, luckily I have passed the test.
so that was a big storm that blew in from gavdos.
next day ZAK picked me up at dawn .,then drove me to Iraklion
I was on hellas high speed for a visit to santorini then on to see the
PARTHENON.
what a nightmare on that ferry ,never again
was not feeling so hot after a night of CRETAN music & hospitality,
had a few RAKIS with Stellios, Manolis of Gallini, and mihalis of souda mare.
then it was asuprise when Zak drove me ,he was supposed to be away.
anyhow he slowed to a halt where Tom died,
I did not ask him to do it ,but it was very spiritual between us.
we had already had the shock of persomnal tragedy the month before.
my mother and Zaks English wife Kelly
were both cremated in england on the same day and Hour,
coincidecnce is very strange.
so souda is where my heart will always be.
I hope to spend many sunsets there when I retire
counting the hrs
