Death of a Plakias regular
« on: March 31, 2016, 01:23:00 PM »
Many of you will be as sad as I was on finding out about the death of John Scadden (aka Boxer Lover) and in tragic circumstances.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-35892523

John and his friend Tom have been visiting for many years, usually having 4 weeks in the early summer and the same in the autumn. Latterly they stayed at the Livicon.

True to the name Boxer Lover he was a great dog lover, even though he no longer owned one, and every year both he and Tom would use part of their luggage allowance to bring various goodies for Bouzouki, their canine friend from the Plakias Bay hotel. Bouzouki seemed to have a sixth sense and always knew when they had arrived. He will miss John too.

John had many friends in the town. He was a thoroughly decent man and he will be much missed by many. I hope others will post their memories of him as a tribute.

RIP John

We were also greatly saddened to hear about John's death particularly in such sad circumstances. We looked forward to meeting him each year, along with Tom, during our Autumn visits. Sadly last year he did not make it in Autumn but he was in frequent email contact with us during his Spring visit extolling the virtues of his eating place, Medousa, where he will also be missed - occupying his reserved table. He was a lovely gentle guy. I particularly remember him not too long back when he looked after Tom's welfare when Tom had a prolonged stay in Rethymnon hospital. John's care and the kind actions of both locals and fellow tourists in his support was a strong indication of how well liked he was and how the Plakias community support such people. Tom and John were Plakias legends.

RIP John and wherever you are. may you enjoy lots of hot beaches, good food and canine company.

John and Gillian

We too were saddened by the news of John, a lovely man with a great smile for all who knew him. A great scrabble player which I and many others will miss. God rest John

This is just so terrible. John was my good friend and to find he died like this is awful

We had such good times over the years at the Medousa and during the day at the far end

I hope you are at peace now John with good company

Chris
