Summer winds in Plakias
« on: October 22, 2012, 12:33:11 AM »
I know this is probably an old topic, but I was in Plakias a few years ago, in June, and I have never seen a sustained wind like this! (2 days, and we finally gave up).  Was I unlucky, or, is this a common weather issue here?

I wonder if it is a product of climate change. We were in Naxos for a fortnight in June and a fortnight in September and it was very windy on both occasions - much windier than normal!

Plakias is known for its wind though we have been lucky in recent years just missing it. I met my hire car boss in Rethymno this year and he told me they always sighed with relief when a car was returned from Plakias without damaged wind blown doors - a frequent occurrence he said.

It certainly isn't a new thing
