Plakias since 2001
« on: January 25, 2012, 09:58:45 PM »
My wife and I  were married in Adele in 2001 and stayed in Plakias with a group of about 30 friends and family for the wedding. The reception was at the Alianthos Gardens Hotel.  We're going back to Plakias in August 2012. Very excited.

Any changes in 11 years?
Thanks :D

You will notice a few changes but not much really i don't think?
Be good to hear your views on your return.
I should be there in August if it ever gets to August!

Not a lot of changes over the last many years (my wife and I first went in the early 1980's and not really too much changed since then)! There has been a large development started over at the far end but it was progressing very slowly two years ago - I wonder has it been finished?

However there is a proposal to set up a large development just down the coast, which might wreck the whole area. You might want to have a look at http://www.save-south-crete.eu/ .

Enjoy your visit, hope the weather is kind.

Regards,   Roger.

I was in town from Sept 27 2011 for 2 weeks. The development at the far end seemed to be finished (the first phase anyway) and there wasn't any building work apparent. In fact there seemed virtually no activity on the site from any holidaymakers either.

My fears about it having a marked effect on the nature of the far end (which was thriving) have not come about so far. I'm sure the economic problems in Europe have had a marked effect on the development.
