Very interesting to a weather buff like me.
Here is the Samaria Weather Stations
page here run by the National Observatory of Athens.
They have other stations across Crete, see
the map here. Green onesare ones run by the National Observatory of Athens, blue are personal and yellow genrally airports. Closest to Plakias is Spili. Some like Paleochora, Falasarna & Chania have webcams.
So lets look at the 3rd of Feb which looked like one heck of a day (use pervious month link at bottom of the page):
Samaria
MEAN DEG DEG WIND DOMDAY TEMP HIGH TIME LOW TIME DAYS DAYS RAIN SPEED HIGH TIME DIR------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3 4.4 6.2 10:10 1.3 21:40 13.9 0.0 264.0 18.0 80.5 9:50 SE
264mm of rain! Over 10 inches of rain!
Compare to Spili:
MEAN DEG DEG WIND DOMDAY TEMP HIGH TIME LOW TIME DAYS DAYS RAIN SPEED HIGH TIME DIR------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3 10.7 12.2 18:30 8.9 23:30 7.7 0.0 48.8 9.0 56.3 10:00 W
Not nearly as impressive but still nearly 2 inches and beats my daily record :-(
Here is my back garden for comparison:

Have to see if I can get some sort of Crete vs Housnlow comparison page up on my website. Will make for depressing reading.
