Any music or folk dance in early September?
« on: July 27, 2010, 10:20:32 AM »
Hi,
my partner and I have recently booked for our first holiday in Plakias, 2 weeks from 31 August at Kostas (have posted more about this in the Kostas thread). Does anyone know of any live music and/or folk dance events in the area at that time? We do not drive but can get the bus (probably not much use in the evening though), or a taxi if not many miles away. I teach circle dance and folk dance in the UK, and also play music, so am always interested on holiday to catch anything local. Interested in modern Greek stuff as well as traditional, if not too poppy.

There could be but such things do not usually get through to this forum.
The best thing to do is ask around locally when you arrive.

There used to be a festival of some kind around Aug/Sept, the car park opposite Kri Kri was taken up with all the chairs. I only caught it the once so I don't know if this is a regular thing, Dave and Ali might know!

That's probably why I've missed, I'm usually there Late Aug/Sept. Thanks Santa, that's nice to know, it was a good night!

there are quite a few places doing folk or rather cretan music, the Peligramnos  on thursday nights and a few others on a more ad hoc basis

The Alianthos Beach restaurant used to put on a display of Cretan music/dancing, also on Thursday evenings I think.  I don't know if they still do.
