Watersports
« on: April 18, 2007, 12:29:33 AM »
Try again , lost my first post, obviously pressed the wrong button !
Can anyone, please, tell me what watersports, if any, are available on Plakias beach, or any other beaches nearby, first two weeks of July ?
This is not for me but I am thinking of taking 4 kids the first two weeks of July. Three like to kyak in calm water and two can waterski. I know this may be a bit controversial but it is b....y difficult finding a holiday to suit everybody and I don't want to go to a 'megahotel' in the North.
Me and the 'other' would just like to chill out !
I am in Plakias 01/05 to 08/05 on my own (escape horray !) , would anyone like to meet for a beer one night ?
I know Crete quite well but have only been to Plakias one day last year.
Cheers,

trekdriver

Hi Trekdriver

There aren't any major water sports facilities in Plakias!
A small sailboat, canoe and I think windsurfers started about a year ago, but that is about it.
I think the Mayor put a block on anything motorised a year or two ago.
Your best bet is Aghia Gallini, they've got the lot there including Jet skis.

George,

Aren't there various watersports on Damnoni Beach, or are they exclusively for people staying at Hapimag?

No idea, I don't like Damnedoni so I don't go there.
Probably are though, I'm sure someone can answer that one  .

Yes - very German. Whenever we've walked through Hapimag on the way to Mikro Amoudi, it feels like you're leaving Crete for the few minutes it takes to get past it. Not our cup of tea, for sure.

Paul ..I know its a lot further along the south coast but at Mirtos one can hire canoes and Hobbicats

Thanks Graeme
Seems Mirtos is worth a visit.
Every time I have driven to Lerapetra (sp) and east the wind has almost blown the jeep/car off the road. Much worse than Plakias/Chora Sfakion/Paleochora.
However this summer we drove to Makrigialos when it was cloudy in Elounda and had a fantastic lunch and a few hours on the beach. Sorry can't remember the name of the taverna.
Coming back just before the junction where you turn left for Pachia Ammos I said to this missus as I overtook a slow 'Tourist' 'Bet I get nabbed for crossing the two solid lines. Two minutes later, as you turn left is a fantastic long wide stretch to overtake. Guess what I did to a slow tourist jeep? Guess who was waiting at the top of the hill?
The Police breathalised me (thankfully I passed) and told me I had crossed the two solid lines. Eighty euro fine, discounted to forty euros if you pay at a Post Office in ten days!!
Beware they obviously use this stretch of road as revenue income!
