Internetcafe?
« on: August 07, 2008, 01:18:35 PM »
hi!

i'm from autria (yes, the guys that simply can't play football    ) and i'm staying at plakias from late august till mid september.
currently i'm bringing my academic studies to an end and unfortunatelly i've gotta take my laptop to plakias and continue writing on my bachelor's thesis.
therefore i need to send my supervising tutor the proceedings by email.
so i wanted to ask if theres kind of an internetcafe or something to have the possibility to send emails at plakias.

looking foreward for your support,

yours,
herb

PS: used the search button, but it didn`t tell me anything....

Hi Herb

I'm sure there are more now, I don't use them, I'm on holiday. But I know of one, there is a facility in the Ostraco Bar for a small charge. I used it a couple of years ago.
If there are any more I'm sure someone will let you know about them!!

edit:

Pete of Pete and Dawn fame, just told me there's one above the Forum too, evidently it's very nice up there.

Hi Herb and welcome to the Plakias forum.

There are a couple of internet cafes in Plakias so it won't be a problem. You can use the computers at Ostracos which is a bar and shown on the map. There is another cafe along the front only I can't remeber the name so perhaps others will be able to help.

If you want to connect your own machine to the Internet the best place to use is the Youth Hostel.

You will find the location shown on the 'Plakias Map' linked in the top right corner of the forum.

Hi Herb!

These are the connection types that were available 3 years ago: (searched for "kbps", couldn't find my own old posts ;-) )
Internet connections: Ostraco: 64 kbps ISDN, Forum: 128 kbps ISDN
So if you want to send larger files to your tutor this might take some time...
At the Ostraco they wouldn't let me attach any device to the USB interface. So it wouldn't be very useful for you, I guess.
At the Forum (upstairs from the souvenir shop) they had no objections plus the PCs had front USB ports.
But that was 3 years ago. Things might have changed. Maybe they have broadband now and maybe they have changed their policy...
Fee was € 1.- per 15 minutes IIRC.
Have a nice holiday!
