Places or people ?
« on: August 15, 2005, 01:32:58 PM »
Last year I was due to go to Plakias with my then new partner , Penny , but we had to cancel a week beforehand because she could not fly on medical advice . She wanted me to go alone but I refused because , as I said on a posting on this site at the time , people are more important than places and much as I love Plakias , I loved her much more and wanted to go on holiday with her . Instead we went to the Highlands , had a lovely time - or so I thought but recently she has cast doubt on that by complaining about things on that holiday - and got engaged. However it has not been an easy relationship with several break ups - including on boxing day when she threw me out of her house with no transport - and she has caused a lot of problems by phone calls to friends , work colleagues including my line manager, estranged family members , and exes. But we have tried to move forward and decided to have our postpned holiday in plakias as we said at the time of cancellation that we would .However the weekend before last ,little more than two weeks before we were due to go to plakias , after another difficult time = caused in part by friction over her looking  to buy a house for us to live together in an area which would have involved about five hours a day travelling to and from work for me - she said we were through - and really there is a limit to the number of break ups a relationship can survive . She has refused to pay for her share of the holiday cost though she is considerably better off than me and has recently bought a car for about £40 000, and she has refused to return the engagement ring which was not cheap .And my passport has mysteriously gone missing which involves me in considerable additional cost and inconvenience in getting a replacement and it is touch and go whether I will get it in time
But I have decided to go to plakias anyway as I need a holiday and I love the place but it will be very difficult as I will have a lot of time to think about things and we had talked so much about the place - she has never been there .
So I think that I now feel that perhaps places are more important than people as you can rely on places not to change their mind or act in a volatile way etc but you cant rely on people !
If by any chance anyone would like to take her place on the holiday - flying from birmingham on 23 august for two weeks - and is able to do so at this notice ,please e mail me - rather than posting a message here -but asap and certainly before friday as this is a work e mail address , preferably giving a phone number so we can discuss the possibilitiy and make arrangements if appropriate
Meantime I imagine that I shall be supping more beers at the Livicon than would otherwise have been the case !

Hi Roger
I'll be there on the 30 Aug so if I see a drunk in the Levicon I'll come and join you. I've also got reasons why I'm sort of single, so if you see a drunk in the levicon come and join me!

That would be good george - will look out for you , I have a slight disability so use a walking stick so that shoudl mark me out . i am unlikely to get drunk though
 - and this is all dependent on getting my passport in time which is touch and go
