Mobile phone SIM card in Plakias
« on: June 20, 2014, 12:01:42 PM »
Hello forumites
Getting impatient to get back to Plakias, but want to keep in touch with the wider world while there. I've been told the best idea for using a mobile abroad is to buy a local SIM card at your destination. Just wondering if anybody on the forum ever does that, and where to get one. Not likely in Plakias itself maybe. If not, has anybody found a phone shop in Rethymon perhaps? :)

I know for sure you can get a SIM card in the main Xristodoulakis supermarket in the middle of the village.  To get a phone card you now have to register it with prove of id i.e. passport.  If you go to the supermarket between 10am and 4pm Mon-Sat they can register your phone and get you up and running.

That's really helpful. Sounds very straightforward! Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply. :)

Also make sure your phone is not 'locked' to your UK network
